Accountant – Downtown Emergency Service Center – Seattle, WA

DESC is currently recruiting for an Accountant to work closely with the Accounting team to maintain accurate and complete financial records for the agency.

The region’s largest multi-service agency serving adults with long histories of homelessness, mental illness, addiction and complicating medical conditions, DESCsucceeds where others have failed. The Accountant has primary responsibility for contract billing, general ledger accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis and taxes and will cross train and provide backup for cash management, accounts receivable and payroll.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare monthly contract invoices for submission to contractors.
Ensure compliance with program requirements, analyze and investigate budget to actual variances.
Reconcile cash and general ledger accounts; investigate differences promptly.
Prepare, assist with tax matters including, but not limited to excise, property and property tax exemptions.
Maintain accurate accounting and administrative records for agency activity working with the Chief Accounting Officer, Senior Accountant and other accounting department staff.
Review and process cash management and banking tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Undergraduate degree in accounting or business administration.
Coursework and one or more years of job experience in accounting and financial management.
Computer experience; significant experience with spreadsheets and accounting software (Abila MIP) preferred.
Careful attention to detail, and ability to work independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
Willingness to be flexible and work cooperatively with co-workers to accomplish all responsibilities.
Ability and desire to communicate and work effectively and appropriately with staff and vendors from various backgrounds and disciplines in person, on the phone, and via email.
