Senior Associate of Communications – The Partnership for Los Angeles Schools

DESCRIPTION
KEY RELATIONSHIPS
The Senior Associate will be highly visible across the organization and manage a variety of cross- functional projects. The individual will be a key member of the 14-member External Relations team, collaborating with staff in our Development, Policy, and Family & Community Engagement departments. The individual will report to the director of communications.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Partnership is seeking a Senior Associate of Communications to assist in the implementation of an integrated communications and marketing strategy to strengthen the Partnership’s brand, and to raise its visibility in Los Angeles and in the education sector more broadly. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the organization’s website, contributing regularly to our social media channels, developing communications geared toward our teachers and donors, and updating and disseminating effective messaging to the stakeholders within our network, including home office staff, school-based staff, and the families and students we serve. In addition, this individual will support the development of an influence communications and marketing strategy aimed at increasing the prominence of the Partnership for external stakeholders. Will support Board of Directors meetings and special projects for the chief External Relations officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as a key member of the External Relations team who will develop strategies to communicate to internal and external stakeholders the Partnership’s mission, best practices, and impact.
Lead implementation of the internal audience (school leaders, teacher and home office) communications plan, ensuring that existing platforms are leveraged – external website, newsletters, leader briefings, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn), network presentations to schools, etc.
Monitor and increase the impact of communications activities by implementing, analyzing and maintaining website, social media and survey metrics.
Update and maintain the Partnership’s website to ensure creative, timely and engaging content. Be responsible for training home office staff on the Word Press platform as needed.
Support the expansion and maintenance of all Partnership social media channels by implementing the social media strategy and contributing photos and narratives on a regular basis. Seek out social media content from Partnership staff, the education sector, our 19 schools, the District and local District representatives, etc.
Contribute to the creation of key external documents like news releases, presentations, fact sheets, FAQs, and visual graphic communications. Periodically support spokespeople with background materials to answer media inquiries. Maintain media mailing lists for Communications materials. Maintain internal distribution lists.
Collaborate with Development and Community Engagement teams to support key initiatives including the annual gala, special community events, and targeted stakeholder mailings; review communications as needed to ensure brand consistency.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
BA/BS degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or English.
Three-five years of relevant work experience in non-profit communications, agency or corporate communications, public affairs/issues management or education policy development, or non-profit marketing.
Excellent writer, editor and proofreader with the ability to generate creative story ideas and translate technical language and concepts into plain language.
Exceptional verbal, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work calmly and maintain good judgment in fast-paced, high-intensity environments.
Adaptable, able to prioritize and work under multiple deadlines with strong attention to detail.

Strong team player and active collaborator

Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Working knowledge of – or ability and desire to quickly learn – Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, Constant Contact, Google Docs, Google Analytics and other software used in the role.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Spanish language fluency (spoken and written) preferred
Education sector experience preferred but not essential
Experience working on issues management or political campaigns desirable

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This is a year-round, full-time position. Compensation will be commensurate with experience. The Partnership offers a robust benefits package including health and dental insurance, and a 403(b) retirement program.
