We’re seeking an individual who wants to work in a new exciting company in one of the hottest start-up sectors. You will work on a highly collaborative, cross-functional and agile team. This is an opportunity to be one of the first 30 employees; this means an environment where everyone is willing to “roll up their sleeves” and figure it out. This position is based in New York City.

Duties and Responsibilities

The School Coordinator will support schools in learning how to use Newsela in the classroom and will be a part of a team responsible for responding to all inbound customer service inquiries via email, chat, social media and phone. This person must also be flexible to work shifts as required including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays.

This person will also play a key role in identifying patterns and trends about the user experience and respond to user requests and needs, both in private and in public, primarily via online channels like email and chat. The Newsela School Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Community Engagement to efficiently and effectively communicate user requests that will influence the development and enhancement of product features.

In addition, the Newsela School Coordinator will assist with a number of wide variety of proactive strategies. Examples include:

Working with the entire community team to update and edit Newsela’s Learning and Support Center to make it best in class.

Managing a list of common teacher questions and answers

Driving the team’s outreach with our school principals.

Overseeing the distribution of Newsela memorabilia to our most engaged educators.

Finally, the School Coordinator will work closely with sales and marketing in executing communications that will build awareness and advocacy.

Desired Skills and Experience

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university. English or technical writing majors a plus.

Experience working with primary or secondary students a plus.

Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills.

Previous Customer service experience preferred – retail customer service background accepted.

Social media expertise: candidate must be a “super user” of social media and understand its role in engaging our community.

Tech-savvy: candidate must understand technology to provide technical support to teachers and school administrators.
