Position Overview

Trillium is incorporating a new administrative model over the next calendar year that will move from a single Director to separate Heads of the Lower and Upper Schools and an Executive Director in charge of overseeing the Non Profit organization. The Head of Lower School will oversee all teaching staff at the K-5 level as well as serving as an instructional leader for the program. The Head will report to the Executive Director of the organization. Ideal candidates will welcome the opportunity to collaborate in building a new model at the school that emphasizes experiential learning through a lens of social justice and equity.

Essential Job Functions

Supervision of all K-5 teaching staff (9 teachers), including hiring, firing, direct observations, facilitation of instructional rounds and facilitating evaluations.
Instructional Coach for K-5
Train and mentor lower school teachers in constructivist and democratic teaching practices including Scottish Storyline Method, Writer’s Workshop, Restorative Justice Circles, Community Meetings, etc.
Collaborate with Head of Upper School, Executive Director and Student Support Specialist on school leadership.
Develop and supervise internship program in conjunction with Portland State University.
Help organize events and trips including campouts, conferences, project nights and open houses
Assist Student Support Specialist with mediations, collaborative problem solving and restorative justice circles.
Communication with Trillium lower school families
Manage Professional Development, activity and supply budgets for lower school
Coordinate State Testing and other required assessments (DRA, Easy CBM).
Attend required School District Trainings and Meetings
Emergency Substitute
Assist with lunch and recess supervision as needed
Responsible for ensuring that classroom and curriculum meet Trillium philosophy and Oregon State/ Common Core Standards (where applicable).
Adheres to Ethical Educator & Professional Practices as set forth by Teacher Standards & Practices Commission (TSPC).http://www.tspc.state.or.us/pub.asp?id=6
Supervises students both in and out of the classroom in a respectful and positive manner.
Engages in bi-weekly staff meetings, weekly team meetings and serves on a school committee.
Responsible for appropriate use of space, equipment, and material storage.
Responsible for creating and maintaining a healthy and safe environment within the classroom and the school.
Adheres to all school systems, protocols and policies that are developed.
Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student information.
Arrives at work on time.
Required to be a respectful, cooperative, and reliable team member.
Maintains professional competence through participation in school provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
For candidates with Oregon state certification: Maintains a valid Oregon teaching or administrative license registered in the manner provided by law during employment.
For candidates without Oregon state certification: Maintains a valid Oregon Charter School Registration in the manner provided by law during employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of and experience with
Constructivist philosophy
Democratic Education philosophy
Experience or familiarity with the Scottish Storyline method
Experience or familiarity with the Writer’s Workshop Model
Restorative Justice Discipline practices
Proficiency- Based Grading Practices
Courageous Conversations about Race or similar Equity work
At least 3 years of classroom experience at the K-5 level
Comfort with high degree of flexibility
Oregon State Teaching License

Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred Master’s Degree in Education.
Must meet Highly Qualified state standards for the position (OAR584-100-0002 through OAR584-100-0111).
Clear communication skills, both orally and in written form.
Ability and desire to work within a collaborative leadership structure, with peers, supervisors and reports.
Ability to create a positive, nurturing environment for the student.
