Research and Advancement Associate – The Climate Reality Project

The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit organization founded by former Vice President Al Gore, is offering a full-time position for a Research and Advancement Associate to work with the Advancement team. This position will play an integral role in a fast-paced organization that combines strategic campaigns and cutting-edge communications to win concrete victories on the path to solving the climate crisis.

General Overview: The Research and Advancement Associate is responsible for prospect research management, as well as general administrative support for the Advancement department and the office of the President and CEO as it relates to all Advancement and fundraising activity.

Climate Reality has offices in Washington, D.C. and Boulder, Colorado. The location of this position is in the Washington DC office.

Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Conducting all prospect identification research to include preparing the final presentation document.
Organizing, maintaining and managing accurate and complete research on current donors and newly identified prospects and foundations.
Identifying opportunities for new major gift prospects.
Managing and developing major gift prospecting lists.
Processing all incoming gifts to include preparing acknowledgement letters.
Answering general donor inquiries.
Maintaining Advancement team meeting schedules as well as preparing agendas and meeting notes.
Managing the donor database in Salesforce to ensure accurate record retention of donor-related documentation, including management of the donor prospect cycle.
Preparing written materials for meetings and events for the President and CEO and staff including call sheets, research and vetting reports, and briefings.
Managing and maintaining all files, records, spreadsheets and lists for the department including but not limited to: the grant reporting calendar; major donor and foundation prospecting lists; subscription lists; contribution trackers; and communication logs.
Assisting where needed at fundraising events and activities.
Acting as the key liaison between the Finance and Advancement departments, including helping to manage the department budget and assisting where necessary during the annual audit review.
Coordinating mailings, including complex mail merges, and annual year-end appeal.
Managing the Advancement intern.
General administrative duties.
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree.
2-3 years of fundraising or development experience, ideally in a major donor research program.
Knowledge and proven use of donor databases, specifically Salesforce.
Highly detailed-oriented and organized.
Experience using research software and tools.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skill.
Proven critical thinking skills.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Demonstrated good judgment and absolute need for discretion.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
High proficiency in MS Office applications, especially MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Mac experience preferred.
