Position Description:

Seedco is seeking a highly-motivated graduate/undergraduate student or recently graduated individual to provide research, fundraising, and grant-writing support to our External Affairs Department. This department is responsible for developing government and foundation proposals, grant writing, research, fundraising, and marketing activities across Seedco’s program areas.

The Research Intern will support Seedco’s fundraising efforts through research and writing projects. This is a great opportunity for hands-on experience at a national nonprofit, which will provide interns with concrete experience in nonprofit administration, fundraising, and economic development.

The duration of the internship will be 3-4 months and approximately 20 hours per week (2-3 days/week with flexible scheduling). Salary will be $10 per hour.

Activities:

Perform research and data collection on topics including poverty, hunger, unemployment, health insurance coverage, and other social issues related to Seedco programs

Perform region- and industry-specific research for specific proposals

Support the cultivation of relationships with foundations (potential donors) through internet research and the development of memos and meeting briefings

Edit and update documents and databases related to Seedco’s programs, partners, and funders

Research and report internally on emerging trends in economic development

Assist Marketing/Communications team with marketing materials and social media activity through research, writing and copy editing

Participate in the production and assembly of complex government applications

Develop and contribute to other projects based on interest, skills, and previous experience

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years undergraduate studies

Excellent internet research skills and the ability to find, organize, and accurately cite data and statistics

Prior experience working at a nonprofit organization or providing direct services to low-income and economically-disadvantaged individuals highly desirable

Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team environment

Strong interpersonal and communications skills

Must be organized, detail oriented and have the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines
