New Hope Liaison – Animal Care & Control of New York City

Definition: Review, select and place companion animals as well as exotic animals that are surrendered to the AC&C. Build and maintain relationships with animal welfare adoption partners.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Cultivate relationships with New Hope Partners and ensure compliance with New Hope protocols. Communication via phone, e-mail, and in-person visits to shelter.
Prioritize animals for placement. Coordinate with other departments to identify priorities.
Document, review and relay information to New Hope Partners as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Ensure the integrity of all documents, including but not limited to New Hope contracts, medical/behavioral records, etc.
Place phone calls to appropriate New Hope Partners for potential placements.
Consistent and timely follow-up on all potential placements.
Request and coordinate transports.
Act as a liaison for animals in the shelter’s care, with other departments, New Hope partners, and external partners (transport, vet hospitals, etc.).
Review and update New Hope Partner placements daily and ensure timely follow up.
Identify and mark animals that have been placed with New Hope Partners.
Set-up animals internally and externally for spay/neuter appointments.
Attend offsite, after-hour New Hope functions, as needed.
Work cooperatively with AC&C volunteers and partners.
Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Required Skills:

Minimum 2 years placement experience working with animals.
Minimum 2 years of Customer Service experience preferred.
Ability to communicate information clearly and thoroughly.
Ability to remain calm and pleasant even in stressful situations.
Computer competency, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; capable of learning shelter system database.
Ability to work at other care centers if needed.
High School Diploma or GED.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work in an animal sheltering environment, with a positive and motivational attitude. Ensure the confidentiality of AC&C Partners at all times.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to odors or airborne particles, including animal fur and toxic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds.

Overtime:This position is not exempt from overtime.
