Development Director – AIM at Melanoma – United States, NY

Overview

AIM at Melanoma, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, is the largest international melanoma organization. AIM is globally engaged and locally invested in advancing the battle against melanoma through groundbreaking research, legislative reform, education, and patient and caregiver support.

AIM is seeking a driven, experienced development professional to join our team as Development Director. The Development Director will play a critical role in the growth of this international organization by spearheading its development program.

The right candidate will be highly experienced with cultivating major individual and corporate donors. It will be the responsibility of the Development Director to lead the fundraising program and increase individual and corporate gifts. The Development Director reports directly to AIM’s two Co-founders.

Fundraising

Serves as primary fundraiser for the organization and responsible for creating, implementing and managing strategic revenue generating initiatives:

Develop and implement a comprehensive, innovative fundraising plan to include prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Experienced developing and successfully executing fundraising plans with annual revenues of $2 – $5 million
Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with existing and prospective individual, corporate and foundation funding sources
Excellent track record of major donor development and can demonstrate experience soliciting individual gifts ranging from $1,000 to $50,000+
Has run successful major donor campaigns generating $50,000 – $250,000 per campaign
Is a champion of stewardship and can demonstrate effective stewardship practices
Excellent writing skills and gifted at grant writing, winning multiple grants at the $25,000 – $100,000 level
Is a natural networker and able to consistently attract and retain new donors through events and communications.
Has run direct mail appeal campaigns bringing in $50,000+ per appeal
Experience executing successful “friend-raising” and fundraising events
Has a track record of successful fundraising through social media
Excellent attention to detail and can demonstrate a high level of competency in managing a donor relations database including timely tracking and acknowledgement of donors and effective reporting

Communications / Outreach

Makes presentations to raise the visibility of AIMto potential funders
Oversees content and maintenance of selected portions of AIM’s website
Oversees and helps generate organizational newsletter
Track record of successful social media communications and growing number of Facebook friends and Twitter followers
Creates and updates outreach/marketing materials

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree in related area such as business, communications, social work, medical services, or non-profit management preferred.

Experience: At least seven years’ experience as a successful front-line fundraiser, generating at least $2 million annually.

Qualities of the successful candidate include:

Brings compassion and understanding for people with melanoma, and is comfortable interacting with them and their families
Effective and at-ease in social situations and able to attract new donors to AIM at networking events
High level of social and emotional intelligence; excellent verbal and written communication skills
Tech savvy and current with the latest databases and communications, i.e. cloud databases and apps such as Dropbox, MailChimp or Constant Contact, crowdfunding, etc.
Ability to be innovative in a resource-conscious environment

The Development Director may work from anywhere in the United States.

Domestic travel to network at AIM patient symposiums and fundraisers and cultivate donor relationships. Approximately 40% travel.
