Child Development Specialist – The Family Center of New York City – Brooklyn, NY

The Family Center has extensive experience in developing programs for families affected by HIV/AIDS and has pioneered the research and design of services addressing permanency planning for children in such families. The Child Development Specialist provides intensive home-based services, including assessments and developmental screening, parenting training and support, case management and service advocacy to families with children ages 0-5, including families impacted by HIV and/or substance abuse. Candidates must be willing to conduct field work in all NYC boroughs. The Child Development Specialist reports to the ESLS Program Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage a caseload of 12-14 families.
Conduct extensive assessment of child developmental milestones, family history, functioning and well-being, parenting knowledge and skills and home environment.
In consultation with supervisor and parents, develop a service plan with goals and objectives intended to improve safety, well-being and permanency for children.
Through intensive home visiting and office based visits, deliver one-on-one parenting skills training utilizing an evidence-based curriculum.
Link children with appropriate services available in their area, including pre-K, Head Start and Early Intervention Services.
Provide information, referral, care coordination, follow-up and advocacy as appropriate to ensure that family needs are met.
Follow research protocol regarding quality and timeliness of assessment and interventions.
Actively participate in weekly reflective supervision.
Attend all ESLS team meetings and case conferences, including those focused on joint service plan development with collaborating agencies.
Plan and facilitate group activities for parents, children or families.
Assist in planning of outreach and clients events.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in early childhood education, psychology or related field
CASAC certification or experience working with addiction a plus
Minimum of two years experience working with children 0-5 and their parents
Knowledge of resources available to low-income families in New York City
Bilingual preferred (Spanish, Haitian Creole or West African French)
