Veterinary Medical Coordinator – Asheville Humane Society – Asheville, NC

The Veterinary Medical Coordinator is responsible for facilitating the Shelter Medicine Program and addressing the medical needs of the animals in custody, both on and off campus. This position serves as the team lead of the Medical Department, coordinates priorities for the contract veterinarian, and is directly involved in the performance of veterinary medical assistance care of the animals. This position is also responsible for supervising the Veterinary Medical Assistants (one full-time and one part-time). The Veterinary Medical Coordinator has frequent contact with other staff, volunteers, foster parents and members of the public.

The Veterinary Medical Coordinator is a full time position and must have flexibility to work on weekends, holidays and occasional on-call status. This position requires the ability to stand and sit for long periods and sufficient manual dexterity to use animal handling and cleaning equipment. It requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach, and lift items weighing at least 50 pounds to a level of 4 feet high.

This position requires:

Valid and unrestricted driver’s license ability to obtain coverage under organization’s insurance carrier
Registered Veterinary Technician certification
Ability to gain North Carolina state Euthanasia By Injection certification
Ability to become a North Carolina State Certified Rabies Vaccinator
At least two-years of experience working in the veterinary medicine field
Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills
Written and oral communication skills
