Retail Operations Manager

The mission of the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is to provide permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability, and to advocate ending homelessness for women. Founded in 1978, DWC was the first organization to exclusively serve mentally ill and elderly homeless women on Los Angeles’ Skid Row. At the end of 2012, DWC expanded its housing and supportive services by opening a second home serving 48 additional women. Position Summary

The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for the general management and oversight of DWC’s two social enterprises, MADE by DWC Café and Gift Boutique and MADE by DWC’s Resale Boutique. MADE by DWC was created to generate economic and social capital to break the cycle of homelessness and unemployment by empowering women through vocational training. This position provides supervision of the store associate staff to ensure effective daily store operations, solicitation and management of inventory, coordination of the retail and marketing calendars, provision of superior customer service, and manages all financial and profitability reports. The Retail Operations Manager works in close collaboration with other DWC staff to coordinate job training programs and volunteers. This position reports directly to the Director of Vocational Education and Social Enterprise.

Essential Functions

Work closely with Director to establish strategies to meet social enterprise goals including profitability and programmatic objectives.
Supervise and manage Store Associates and Trainers including on-boarding, training, and professional development.
Responsible for all requested reporting, including but not limited to sales revenue, sales tax, inventory, and financial reports.
Provide weekly deposits and monthly POS revenue reports to the DWC finance staff.
Ensure compliance with all applicable health and safety standards.
Accountable for staff scheduling, opening and closing procedures, cash register operations, all monies received, sales receipts, stocking and inventory.
Accountable for a safe environment where all employees actively prevent loss and minimize risk.
Provides on-boarding, scheduling, and supervision of volunteers, engages community partners, and promotes the mission, vision, and values of the DWC.
Oversee systems for inventory management of all product lines including the rotation, mark-downs, waste reduction, and point-of-sale (POS) utilization.
Responsible for management of store and café supplies within budget including order placement, delivery and pick-up.
Coordinate and support in-store events and pop-up shops, as needed.
Support merchandising, customer service, and order fulfillment for MADE by DWC e-commerce site.
Oversee the development of an annual retail and marketing calendar to define merchandising, visual display, and marketing objectives.
Support implementation of marketing strategies for website, social media, and print ad campaigns.
Coordinate scheduling and on-going support to meet the vocational educational and job-readiness goals for the social enterprise related programs and trainings.
Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

Necessary Skills / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree/equivalent experience preferred.

2-3 years of retail management experience preferred.
Ability to exercise and model good judgment and problem-solve quickly.
Possess superior customer service skills; ability to communicate with variety of customers and stakeholders
Detail-oriented, highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities, and set and meet goals and deadlines.
Knowledge of issues related to women’s poverty, homelessness, and mental illness a plus
Ability to develop others, think creatively, embrace and lead change.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required.
Ability to maneuver around sales floor, stock room, and lift and carry 50 lbs.
Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including evening and weekend shifts.
Criminal background check and clearance required

SCHEDULE & SALARY: This is a full-time, exempt position with flexibility to work evenings and weekends. Salary range dependent on qualifications and experience. Eligible for DWC’s comprehensive benefits package of paid time off, medical, dental, vision and chiropractor insurance
