Resident Advocacy Coordinator – EAH Housing

DESCRIPTION
This position is for a Resident Advocacy Coordinator based in San Jose, CA. Qualified candidates will have three years of experience in affordable housing advocacy, grassroots community organizing or public affairs. The Resident Advocacy Coordinator will support our Real Estate Management Department staff in building capacity to engage and advance resident organizing through outreach programs, training and participation and will interact with a variety of EAH Staff, other affordable housing developers and organizations that have the same focus on advancing affordable housing justice.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Resident Advocacy Coordinator, under general supervision, organizes and trains residents and staff to be leaders in housing advocacy efforts. Organizing in the Bay Area with initial emphasis in Santa Clara County and assisting in the development and implementation of strategic resident campaigns. Advances affordable housing mission with residents in the region. This position is characterized by a high degree of initiative, responsibility, accountability and congeniality in working with a wide variety of individuals, community based organizations and governmental entities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Works and provides guidance to Resident Services Coordinators and Resident Managers of EAH Properties in the San Jose area and other coalition partners to build a powerful base of resident leaders and integrate resident organizing into daily property management operations.
• Develops and implements a resident leadership program that identifies and trains residents to get engaged in advocacy efforts for affordable housing with EAH partner agencies and organizations – specifically the Residents United Network (RUN).
• In conjunction with the EAH Advocacy Manager coordinates meetings and actions, and engages members in advancing campaigns that promote housing justice through internal and external channels.
• Meets with organizers and advocates from other organizations in an effort to integrate best practices for resident advocacy and strengthen ties with the affordable housing advocacy community.
• Ensures increased number of community supporters through recruiting, training, and coordinating resident outreach programs. • Communicates regularly with supervisor, EAH Advocacy Manager and advocacy partners regarding advocacy activities, updates and time-sensitive issues. Tabulates statistics on monthly and quarterly basis on contacts and recruits.
• Supports EAH’s communication’s department’s educational, advocacy initiatives, grants, and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Education – Bachelor’s Degree in the following areas of study: Public Policy, Liberal Arts, Communications Studies, Public Relations, Business Administration, Non Profit Management, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of three years of related work or field experience in affordable housing advocacy, grassroots community organizing or public affairs. • Bilingual English/Spanish highly desirable.
