Background Two sister Organizations: ‘Harlem Children Society’ (HCS) and ‘Association of Science & Society’ (AS&S), aimed at developing a society for better humanity by creating awareness in scientific literacy and social issues are looking for committed and efficient Fundraiser and Proposal writers.

Harlem Children Society (URL: www.HCS2k.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting an Innovative Science Education Program for Children and Youth living in under-resourced and under-served communities and school districts. We seek to engage learners in a healthy enquiry of the world, and to expose them to opportunities that are available in the field of science. We seek to emphasize their pursuit of higher education and career achievement by providing them with knowledge, skills, guidance, encouragement, and understanding.

Harlem Children Society (HCS) is a Fifteen Year (15) old “bridge program” that provides an opportunity for extremely high level of scientific research at leading scientific and medical institutions for select high school (Grades 8-12) and Under-Graduate students from low-income areas in New York City, the Tristate area, across the country nationally, and a Global program in several countries in all continents. Students are paired with mentors, who are top professionals in their field, and train and work on specific projects.

Job Summary The program identifies under-resourced and under-served communities, targets at-risk children and youth in those communities, and provides them an opportunity to explore the world and their future through science, thereby helping to revitalize the community as a whole. The organizations also serve to be a catalyst for change through recognizing inventors and invention, promoting creativity, and advancing the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. We are committed to fostering the inventive spirit, developing creative products, programs, and partnerships that emphasize the importance of invention in society.

Reports To They will report to the President/Chairman.

Responsibilities Oversee organization and implementation of mentor/mentee group events. Oversee program evaluation activities. Develop and manage relationships with all program stakeholders including social workers, foster parents, group homes, schools, training centers, and community-based organizations. Manage mentor and mentee/striver screening, training, matching, support and supervision, recognition, and closure activities. Attend regional/national conferences to increase knowledge of mentoring program and best practices. Work with staff, president, and community to continue to create an innovative and balanced spectrum of services & programs that serve the needs of the community. Must be able to perform research, prepare and submit articles in per reviewed journals, other media related outlets & releases with staff in support of ongoing needs & priorities. Write/review/edit Manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals & media. Editorial and Magazine layout skills, Publishing and reporting skills useful. Research potential publication sources through a variety of printed and electronic sources to match program focus with ASS & HCS projects. A 3D Animation Film addressing Climate Change & Civilizations: Assistance required to funding and promotion of the film. The film provides solutions that creates awareness in Eco-Responsibility and Eco-friendly initiatives, and would empower the next generation to participate in finding solutions. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (required) and minimum of three years writing experience in journals and other media. Masters or Doctorate preferred with emphasis in social work, psychology, and/or education). Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for/experience with new endeavors, pilot programs, or demonstration projects (preferred). Experience with mentorship, youth development & foster care (preferred) Capable of making a 1 year commitment (required) Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Exceptional writing skills that reflect careful attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated experience and ability to research projects. Ability to prioritize projects, meets deadlines, manage several projects simultaneously, and work well under pressure. Computer literacy and data base familiarity. Ability to work well with diverse groups – internal and external audiences. Ability to seek and synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct form. Disciplined self-starter who can set and achieve goals. Ability to be flexible and work independently as part of a diverse team. Strong time-management skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task. High-level of competency with Microsoft Office suite, online research and Web-based applications Leadership and Supervision

Direct, supervise, and develop the Web Maintenance Officer, Special Projects Coordinator, and Communications staff, contract workers and interns. Provide guidance and counsel in the development and implementation of annual work plans. Foster a continuous learning environment throughout the organization Preferred

Planning and implementation of internal communications initiatives. Fluency in more than one language Education and Experience
