Program Specialist – Baltimore – Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake seeks two entry level professionals to join our team as Program Specialists. One position will be responsible for Community-Based enrollment and the other position will focus on Site-Based programming. Both positions are responsible for the enrollment, matching, and support of youth and volunteers paired in mentoring relationships. The Program Specialist is provides high-level customer service in the volunteer and parent/child enrollment and matching process while executing a high degree of independent judgment in accordance with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) national standards. The Program Specialist evaluates friendships and delivers tailored guidance, direction and risk management assistance to volunteers and families. Ideal candidates aspire to make a difference in the lives of young people while serving, learning and growing within an innovative non-profit organization.

Site-Based Job Responsibilities:
Work with businesses and corporations to recruit potential volunteers to meet weekly or monthly at site based programs.
Meet with school principals and guidance counselors to coordinate programming and manage behavior on-site.
Ensure high-level proficiency in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.
Conduct volunteer enrollments including individual orientations, interviews and completion of references and background checks.
Conduct child enrollments at the child’s school and provide child safety education and program orientation at this time. Assess and refer families for alternative or additional services as needed.
Meet established monthly and annual goals for new matches, match quality, documentation quality, processing time and customer satisfaction.
Maintain accurate paperwork and data entry into agency web-based system, Agency Information Management (AIM), for each participant, according to agency standards including completion of necessary surveys.
Provide timely and comprehensive reports and recommendations for participation in the program based upon enrollment information and assessments of each potential match participant.
Nurture and sustain the mentoring experience for volunteer adults and youth matched in our program. Effectively coach and motivate volunteers to grow friendships that result in positive youth development.

Community Based Job Responsibilities
Ensure high-level proficiency in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job function.
Conduct volunteer enrollments including individual orientations, interviews and completion of enrollment processes.
Conduct parent/child enrollments at the child’s home and provide child safety education and program orientation at this time; assess and refer families for alternative or additional services as needed.
Meet established monthly and annual goals for new matches, match quality, documentation quality, processing time and customer satisfaction.
Maintain accurate paperwork and data entry into agency web-based system, Agency Information Management (AIM), for each participant, according to agency standards including completion of necessary surveys.
Provide timely and comprehensive reports and recommendations for participation in the program based upon enrollment information and assessments of each potential match participant.
Assess and apply factors contributing to successful match. Effectively align volunteer interests and qualifications with service options of agency.
Determine matches and facilitate match meetings in the child’s home in accordance with volunteer and family schedules.
Collaborate with other service delivery staff to ensure smooth transition among functions.

Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in social services, human services, or related field
Must be able to work at least two evenings/week and two Saturdays/month (Community-Based Position)
Self-motivated, energetic, organized, results-driven, creative and innovative
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment
Understanding of case management, child development, and family dynamics
Ability to work independently exercising good judgment, decision-making and problem solving skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills reflecting solid customer service
Interviewing and assessment skills with strong interpersonal and relationship-building ability
Capable of providing the following support skills: guiding, supporting, confronting, advising, and/or mediating
Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality throughout daily operations
Ability to collect meaningful data and draw solid conclusions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel
Must have a car, valid driver’s license, and meet state required automobile insurance minimums
