Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC), a community of faith, unites people to work for peace with justice. Position Summary

The Program Manager is LVC’s national representative for Seattle, Tacoma, and Oakland, CA. This position manages long-term relationships with non‐profit agencies, the local LVC communities, and local congregations, and facilitates resources for volunteers in the region. This position strengthens and cultivates LVC’s local network of supporters, and develops sustainable funding opportunities for LVC. The Program Manager demonstrates a commitment to the mission and vision of LVC including its core practices of social justice, intentional community and simply and sustainable living.

Position Duties and responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below provide a general overview of the position and is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities. As with any position, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned or reassigned as needed within the LVC business model.

Local Support Network

Manage, build, and support the Local Support Network
Identify and cultivate local mentors that support volunteer communities throughout the year
Communicate the mission and vision of LVC’s program to local supporters
Seek and maintain alliances with local anti‐racism/anti‐oppression partners
Seek and maintain alliances with area volunteer service corps organizations
Facilitate, with Local Support Network, the local orientation for incoming volunteers

Advancement

In consultation with the development team and National Program Director, develop fundraising plans that encompass major fundraising events as well as individual, congregational, and synodical giving
Build and cultivate relationships with alumni, local donors, area congregations and area ELCA synods
Respond to requests for information about LVC. Seek opportunities for staff, volunteers, and local supporters to meet and make presentations to congregations and other audiences

VolunteerMatching and Matching Process

Provide evaluative feedback on current placements by completing site visits and maintaining ongoing dialogue throughout the year
Participate in prospective volunteer and placement matching
Participate in local recruitment visits, based on annual recruitment plan

Volunteer and Placement Management

Maintain three-way relationship between LVC, volunteers and placements
Participate in collaborative planning with National Program Team and implement approved program curriculum
Conduct periodic site visits to assess local networks, placements, and volunteers
Integrate LVC’s organizational values through programming that offers safe space for dialogue on faith and anti‐racism/anti‐oppression work
In conjunction with LVC staff, help plan and implement annual national volunteer orientation
Attend LVC-identified anti‐racism training
Participate in staff meetings and staff conferences
Prepare monthly financial expense reports and administer local program field account
Maintain the LVC field office

Qualifications

Required

B.A. or equivalent
Ability to use discretion and judgment within the duties and responsibilities of the position with the ability to make both independent and collaborative decisions.
Experience leading and facilitating identity and spiritual formation for young adults
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, placements, the local support network and local partner organizations
Ability to engage the Lutheran community in the program region, especially work with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)
Strong personal commitment to the mission and vision of LVC including its core practices of social justice, intentional community and simple and sustainable living
Ability to articulate social and global justice in the context of Christian and other faith traditions
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, meeting and workshop facilitation
Ability to identify & establish priorities, work independently in a satellite office with remote supervision
Excellent organizational, computer, writing and administration skills including proficiency using Microsoft 365, experience or a willingness to learn Raiser’s Edge database software and Hiretouch software

Preferred

Experience as a volunteer in LVC or a similar year‐long service program
Experience as a volunteer coordinator in a similar year‐long service program or 3 years’ experience as a volunteer coordinator in a non‐profit organization
Previous experience in a multicultural setting
Demonstrated application of anti‐racism and anti‐oppression analysis

LOCATION and Working Conditions

LVC currently operates in eleven cities across the United States. The Program Manager – West position is currently located in Seattle, WA. LVC reserves the right to re-locate the position to another LVC city in the future as business needs require. This position typically works Monday through Friday with occasional requirement to work night or weekend hours as well as occasional travel throughout the year. Position involves weekend and evening commitments and up to ten out‐of‐town trips per year ranging from four to five days each.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

LVC staff members are employees of Lutheran Volunteer Corps. The Program Manager – West is supervised by and reports directly to the National Program Director. This position has supervisory responsibilities. LVC Board of Directors is also available for support and guidance. LVC staff are governed by the policies and guidelines set forth in the Staff Handbook and as amended by the Leadership Team or Board of Directors.
