Program Manager – chashama – New York, NY

chashama, an NYC-based not-for-profit that transforms temporarily vacant properties into spaces where creativity can flourish, is seeking an experienced and passionate Program Manager to join our team. The Program Manager will oversee and manage all aspects of an established visual arts studio program, develop and expand program services, and support the growth of chashama’s studio artist community.

Since 1995, chashama, has supported the work of over 12,000 artists. Our mission is to make live, work and presentation space affordable and available to artists across a wide range of disciplines, and to help them sustain their creative practice through programs that promote their work and bolster their artistic and professional development. The Program Manager is a vital part of the Program Department, and as chashama grows, the Program Manager may also take on a curatorial role for our presentation locations.

The Program Manager will work closely with chashama’s Program Director and report to the Artistic Director.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

Oversee and carry out the administration of chashama’s visual arts studio program.
Establish clear lines of communication between studio artists and organization to ensure a productive work environment.
Prepare artist publicity and listings, oversee collection of surveys and feedback reports, work alongside marketing team to ensure artist messaging is in line with organizational brand and guidelines.
Understand and manage entry of program data into organizational database (Filemaker Pro).
Assist with production and administration of Open Studios events, plan and manage Visiting Curators Program, professional development workshops, and others.
Help cultivate and develop current artist and alumni relationships and a community within the studio program.
Recruit and supervise Program Interns to support department needs and create valuable learning experiences.

The ideal candidate:

has 2-4 years of experience managing or organizing diverse artistic populations in a not-for-profit setting.
has strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and strong interpersonal skills.
is adept at using Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Google Drive, and is familiar with the basics of Adobe Creative Suite and organizational database software. Experience using Filemaker Pro is a plus.
is able to organize large amounts of information from various sources.
pays attention to details, but not at the expense of the big picture.
is supportive of emerging and visionary artists.
enjoys, and is good at, solving problems, has a strong work ethic and sense of initiative, and sees challenges as an opportunity for growth (organizationally as well as professionally).
has management experience alongside the administrative work that keeps programs functioning at a high level.
is a self-starter who can independently gather, and judiciously use, resources.
is able to navigate a diverse range of relationships and personalities with poise and professionalism, knows how to roll with the punches, and takes ownership of their actions and responsibilities.
is able to lift 50 pounds and work with basic hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, etc) for basic installation of artworks.
is comfortable working in a variety of venues around NYC (you won’t simply be sitting in an office all day).

40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Some nights or weekends may be required. Compensation: $40k annual, health and dental benefits package, flexible paid time-off, generous paid office holidays and scheduled closings (over 25 days per year), reimbursement of job related travel expenses.
