Program Associate – Jewish Family and Children’s Services – San Francisco, CA

Job Summary: Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JFCS) has been providing the Bay Area with a wide array of educational services and social service programs tailored for all age groups in the Bay Area since 1850. The Program Associate works in a dynamic, team-oriented environment, under the supervision of the Director of Education. The Program Associate is responsible for the planning, implementation and outreach of a variety of JFCS Holocaust Center programs, including the Holocaust Survivors Speakers Bureau.

The Program Associate has a strong background in Holocaust studies, and experience working with large community events. He/she works in partnership with other staff to increase the involvement of students, educators, volunteers, donors and community members; and understands the mission and goals of the Agency.

Event Development and Implementation:The Program Associate works in partnership with Holocaust Center staff to provide interactive and meaningful Holocaust education to more than 20,000 students and adults annually.

Facilitates, organizes, and does outreach for community education programs in the Bay Area and on occasion around the country. Works in partnership with community groups and individuals to ensure successful event implementation.
Participates in the outreach, planning and implementation of the Day of Learning annual conference, Yom Hashoah and other community programs as assigned.
Works together with Holocaust Center staff on the planning and facilitation of Legacy Study Tours to Germany, Poland and Israel.
Oversees JFCS Holocaust Center publications in partnership with the JFCS Marketing Department and Holocaust Center staff.
Manages marketing of assigned events including the use of social media in the recruitment.
Makes public presentations, gives public lectures, and serves as general resource for the larger community on Holocaust Center programs.
Works with the JFCS Development staff to meet with funders, cultivate future funding opportunities, and submit grant applications.

Volunteer Involvement: Understands and works to meet the goals of the Volunteer Services and the Holocaust Survivors Speakers Bureau program, which matches local survivors with over 150 schools and community groups each year to share their stories of surviving the Holocaust and beginning a new life after the war.

Recruits, trains, and provides ongoing supervision for volunteer positions of the JFCS Holocaust Center.
Maintains a relationship with current, past and potential members of the Speakers Bureau. Works closely with each survivor to ensure successful programming.
Facilitates Speaker’s Bureau services with educators at Bay Area schools and special groups. Provides the group with curriculum materials related to each survivor’s story.
Recruits and trains adult volunteers to assist survivors as drivers and companions when necessary.
Liaisons between survivors, students and staff to ensure the successful participation of survivors in the Next Chapter program. Nominates survivors and appropriately matches them with student participants.

    Research and explore the future of the Speakers Bureau in the post-survivor era.

    Other Duties as assigned

Supports and works cooperatively with other JFCS programs, as needed and appropriate.
Attends required agency meetings and collaborates with agency staff on related projects as required.
Works to meet budget and service goals.
Complies with the Jewish Family and Children’s Services Policies and Procedures Manual and other Agency standards for performance.

Job Qualifications:

BA degree and three years working in related fields required. Advanced degree recommended.

Degree in Holocaust Studies, Genocide Studies, Jewish Studies, Education or related subject.
Experience in running community events and public speaking.

Excellent writing, verbal and organizational skills; ability to work well independently and as part of a team; competence in working effectively with volunteers and members of the community.
Experience working with a Holocaust Survivor or senior population.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills in marketing, communications and outreach.
Familiarity with databases and information management.
Experience supervising volunteers in a social service setting.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Excellent references required.
