Program Aide (Food Fighters) – Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation – Brooklyn, NY

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation (CHLDC) is a not-for-profit community development organization serving 8,000 residents a year through a comprehensive array of housing preservation, economic development, community organizing and youth and family support services programs and projects. With community residents leading the way, the mission of Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation is to build a strong, sustainable Cypress Hills/East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure healthy and affordable housing and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community.

Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one (1) part-time program aide from July to August 2015, in the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). This position is hourly for 25 hours per week.

Principal Duties:

Assist in planning, implementing and documenting successful Service Learning program with 24 14 and 15-year old SYEP participants.
Support SYEP participants as they work to maintain community garden spaces throughout Cypress Hills.
Provide supervision to SYEP participants on field trips to other urban agriculture sites across New York City.
Participate in pre-service training, and ongoing professional development and coaching as requested.
Assist in leading participants in 20 hrs./week of service including five hours of an educational component/reflection based on DYCD curriculum.
Ensure participant compliance to program and SYEP requirements.
Adhere to policies and procedures in a proactive manner, prioritizing the safety of participants.
Create of environment of high expectations for participation and effort.
Build positive relationship with each participant, and foster the development of an effective team of participants, with the goals of making significant community impacts and fostering the positive development of participants.
Represent the agency professionally to all stakeholders.
Contribute to the creation of a cohesive and effective staff team.
Assist in recording, maintaining and submitting all time keeping, monitoring and other DYCD-required documents.
Inspect room at beginning and end of sessions, and complete room check in log.
Other assignments, as requested.

Position Requirements:

High School Diploma and some college experience preferred.
Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions.
Excellent attention to detail and office procedures.
Bilingual/Spanish fluency preferred.
Experience in youth development programs.
