Prevention and Care Manager – The Black AIDS Institute – Los Angeles, CA

Overview

The Prevention and Care Manager is an essential part of the Black AIDS Institute’s Programs team and is responsible for implementing all direct service programming at the Institute. The Prevention and Care Manager will have lead responsibility for implementing BTAN (Black Treatment Advocates Network) Los Angeles, a program driven by peer mentors to maximize Black Angelenos participation in HIV and other health-related prevention, testing, and treatment services.

Reporting Relationship: Director of Programs

Supervisory Relationship: Direct-Service Coordinators and Interns

Supervision/Training:

Direct supervision of Linkage to Care Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator; manage interns
Regularly supervisory meetings with the Director of Programs
Daily maintenance of a departmental work plan which details project goals and outcomes
Participating in agency training programs
Maintain an ongoing professional development plan

Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

Oversee all aspects of the BTAN LA project, including treatment, care and biomedical programming
Lead collaboration with BTAN LA team to develop innovative strategies to reach Black Angelinos not currently accessing HIV services
Train, supervise, evaluate, coach, and counsel direct reports
Set standards of accountability for direct reports
Develop, analyze, and manage program budget
Maintain appropriate and timely documentation of services delivered including CDC and related-reporting
Collaborate with community organizations, prevention staff, and volunteers to facilitate effective HIV prevention and care outreach activities and referrals to essential support services
Maintain strict client confidentiality standards per state and federal regulations (HIPAA)
Assist in developing and implementing the agency’s Quality Management Plan and implementing service and programmatic quality improvement activities
Some travel required

Professional Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or extensive and proven experience, Master’s degree preferred
Ability to demonstrate competency (or the capacity to be trained on) high level HIV prevention knowledge
A minimum of 3 years of experience conducting HIV testing and/or HIV prevention outreach
2+ years of supervisory experience
Demonstrated experience with HIV/AIDS issues
Certified HIV tester
Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to exercise discretion and tact in all interpersonal contacts and maintain confidentiality at all times
Ability to work independently and accurately without direct supervision
Ability to manage multiple tasks
Excels in fast paced environment

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Ability to read, write and converse in English
Ability to communicate efficiently with staff, stakeholders, and vendors
Ability to remain calm and composed under stress
Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, and/or prolonged sitting/standing
Ability to respond to telephones and other auditory stimulation
Ability to organize
Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements)
Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgments/decisions
