Outreach and Campaign Engagement Coordinator

Program: Mission SRO Collaborative (MSROC)

Compensation: $20.51 – $21.33/hr ($40,000 – $41,600 FTE annually)

Supervised by: MSROC Program Manager

Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, generally Mon-Fri.10 a.m.-6 p.m., with some evening and weekend hours as needed to implement program activities.

Dolores Street Community Services (DSCS) nurtures individual wellness and cultivates collective power among low-income and immigrant communities to create a more just society.

As a multi-issue, multi-strategy organization, we work to improve lives on an individual level as well as affect broader social change by engaging in advocacy and community organizing. We work together across programs (addressing homelessness, affordable housing, and immigrant rights) to meet the needs of our communities and address the root causes of suffering and injustice.

Program and Position Summary:
The Mission SRO Collaborative works to improve living conditions and empower tenants in Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotels in the Mission District of San Francisco. Program components include outreach, tenant stabilization services, and community programs—including educational and leadership development workshops on topics such as fire prevention, disaster preparedness, tenant rights, and housing justice issues.

The Collaborative is comprised of DSCS as the lead agency and fiscal agent, Causa Justa::Just Cause, the Mission Neighborhood Resource Center, and the Women’s Community Clinic.

The Outreach and Campaign Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of outreach and campaign strategies, in partnership with the MSROC team and SRO tenants, including identifying and prioritizing SRO tenant related issues, research, developing and implementing actions. This position will take a leading role in visioning, planning, and overseeing our community organizing campaigns.

Position Responsibilities:
Organize SRO tenant leaders on campaigns through political strategy development, setting organizing goals, conducting outreach and implementation of various campaign activities
Design, execute, and evaluate campaigns that work to directly improve the housing and livelihood of SRO tenants
Represent or ensure representation of the organization in community organizing, advocacy and civic engagement efforts affecting low income tenants and homeless communities
Engage staff and tenant leaders in civic engagement activities, including testifying at City Hall and conducting lobby visits
Work with tenant leaders to deepen political consciousness
Coordinate with other MSROC staff to develop tenant meetings that identify and prioritize tenant issues
Build relationships and work in alliances and coalitions to forward campaign goals
Actively participate in program assessments, planning and evaluation
Participate in bi-weekly meetings with representatives from Collaborative agencies
Serve as a resource and referral source for SRO tenants, SRO managers/owners, and other agencies on issues related to accessing services and stabilizing SRO hotels
Engage in community organizing efforts affecting SRO residents and homeless communities, including affordable housing, social services, land-use, and community planning issues
Maintain familiarity and working relationships with City agencies, community and neighborhood groups, and social service organizations that work with SRO tenants
Generate reports, collecting data, and assisting with program administration, as needed

Other Duties:
Attend organizational and departmental meetings, trainings, and activities
Maintain professional attitude and work ethic
Comply with DSCS policies and procedures, and laws pertaining to the operation of DSCS
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Three years of related experience doing campaigns or community organizing
Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds including multiply-diagnosed low-income populations, people who are marginally housed, LGBTQ individuals, people of color and persons with disabilities
Experience in the fields of community organizing, tenant rights, affordable housing, supportive housing, and/or homelessness
Knowledge of issues facing homeless and low-income people in San Francisco
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
Volunteer supervision experience
Strong facilitation skills
Willingness to work flexible hours and weekends
Commitment to social justice issues
Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
