Health and Wellness Co-Coordinator – Flowood – The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi

Function and Scope of Position
The Health and Wellness Co-Coordinator reports to the Executive Director for The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi. The Health and Wellness Co-Coordinator is assigned certain duties listed below as well as other tasks and projects deemed necessary in performing daily operations of the organization.

The Co-Coordinator is responsible for but not limited to the following duties:
1. Program Implementation- Nutrition and Physical Fitness
– Work w/CoCoordinator to develop, implement and monitor the annual Health and Wellness strategic plan and scope of work for the department;
– Develop and maintain annual Health and Wellness operating budget with the assistance of the Chief Operations/Fiscal Officer;
– Develop, implement and monitor the Just Have a Ball® awareness and physical fitness components (i.e.- lesson plans, presentation materials, curriculum, and other related nutrition, gardening, etc. print materials) with assistance from Communications staff, as needed;
– Responsible for scheduling nutrition/physical fitness presentations and coordinating with contractual vendor(s) to secure delivery of presentations;
– Responsible for inventory of JHAB presentation supplies and working with contractual vendor on presentation shipments/program needs;
– Responsible for evaluation data for PHM health and wellness programs, presentations, etc. and make modifications, as needed;
– Provide training and hands-on technical assistance to participating school(s) and/or other community organizations, partners, etc. involved in health and wellness awareness and prevention programs;
– Work with Communications staff to provide and/or disseminate information related to Health and Wellness programs and activities (i.e.- information for newsletters and blast emails, website information/programmatic updates, press releases to highlight program areas, social media updates/alerts, database management; and other communications projects as needed.
– Work with Executive Director and H&W Co-Coordinator to explore additional topics/areas of focus pertaining to Health and Wellness, as requested;

2. Community Outreach/Statewide support
– Serve as a representative for the statewide Mississippians for Health and Wellness Coalition and/or other coalitions, as requested;
– Schedule and conduct monthly presentations to generate program support, build relationships, and identify additional funding sources for Health and Wellness programs;
– Work with Government Relations Director on Health and Wellness related topics for local/county/statewide policy support and recommendations.
– Assist Government Relations Director with local/county/statewide presentations and meetings to policy makers, as requested.

3. External Funding- Grant Writing and Fundraising
– Research and network with local, statewide and/or national organizations to identify, investigate, and complete grant applications to secure annual funding for current and/or new Health and Wellness prevention programs;
– Upon receipt of grants, work with contractor and Chief Operations/Fiscal Officer on programmatic and financial grant requirements;
– Responsible for working with appropriate PHM staff member(s) on grant renewal process, contract negotiation, etc.

4. Administration
– Attend staff meetings as scheduled by Chief Operations/Fiscal Officer and/or Executive Director;
– Scheduling internal PHM meetings with other Health and Wellness staff and/or other PHM staff, as needed for program assistance and external funding support to meet weekly objectives;
– Responsible for submitting calendar of events related to Health and Wellness prevention presentation to Chief Operations/Fiscal Officer prior to event(s) for liability insurance coverage;
– Assisting in preparation and submission of monthly/year-end programmatic and fiscal reports, as required by PHM and/or other grant entities;
– Responsible for submitting program ideas and funding opportunities during weekly external funding meetings;
– Responsible for submitting weekly itinerary, timesheets, etc., as required;
– Responsible for the weekly submission of request for payment with required support documentation in a timely manner;
– Represent PHM at community meetings, partner meetings, chamber of commerce, etc. that relate to Health and Wellness divisions, as requested and approved by Executive Director;
– Responsible for submitting abstracts and presentation proposals related to all areas of Health and Wellness for local/state/national prevention conferences/meetings, as approved by Communications Director and Executive Director;
– Assisting with other PHM projects as directed.

Position Specifications
Education Required: Preferred Master degree, Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Public Health; Education; Health Promotions, Exercise Science Nutrition or other public health focus areas. Minimum of three (3) years working experience in program development, implementation and maintenance of community and/or youth prevention programs. Experience providing technical assistance and event planning.

Skills Required: Time management, self-motivation, excellent written and oral communication, self-directed, team oriented, working knowledge of Microsoft Office operating systems, and a commitment to the organization’s mission.
Preferred grant writing experience.
