Events Manager – Fulfillment Fund – Los Angeles, CA

General Summary & Position Purpose:

The Events Manager will work with multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organization to produce high-level events which raise awareness for the organization and support its fundraising and community engagement goals. In addition, he/she manages budgets for annual special events and activities. The position will require a minimum of 3-5 years experience planning events; a strong team player; excellent relationship-building and vendor management skills; strong organizational and project management skills and demonstrated fiscal performance. The Events Manager must effectively participate in cross-departmental initiatives for the organization such as marketing and communications, student-oriented program events, and must be able to work closely with vendors and volunteer committees to maximize the impact of special events for external constituents.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Planning and execution of special events, from site visits and venue selection to the creation and supervision of timelines, strategic planning, problem-solving, and staffing positions on-site.
Oversee production elements on events ranging from entertainment and talent management to technical, creative, catering, guest experience, and logistics.
Negotiate contracts with locations and vendors and secure in-kind donations to offset expenses when possible.
Participate in strategic planning with key staff members, consultants, and senior management including the CEO, COO and VPs.
Evaluate new event opportunities and make recommendations to the organization.
Work closely with the Director of Communications to develop event marketing materials including print and email invitations, web and social media content, press releases, videos, advertising. Serve on organization’s communications committee.
Work closely with the Associate Director of Experiential Learning and Events to plan student-oriented events including Destination College, the Graduation Celebration and some overnight trips to visit colleges.
Work with finance department to manage tracking system for event budgets. Ensure compliance with government agencies by filing permits and reports of results. Maintain electronic and paper files in support.
Assist with other critical initiatives of the organization on an as-needed basis.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability & Qualifications:

Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in event planning, ideally with a nonprofit organization;
Experience working with high-profile leaders including major donors, corporate executives and celebrities;
Ability to cultivate relationships and work effectively with vendors, donors and volunteers;
Available to work evenings and weekends;some overnight travel may be required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and proficient in use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), social media, and Raisers Edge;
Knowledge of website maintenance desired; some graphic design skills a plus
Strong work ethic and ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and deadlines;
Organized, diplomatic, detailed, adaptable and personable;
Proven ability to work independently and as a team player.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors Degreeand/or 3-5 years of experience in planning special events,ideally with a nonprofit organization

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance requested.
