Agency Description: Asian Americans Advancing Justice – LA (Advancing Justice-LA) is the nation’s largest Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) legal and civil rights organization and serves more than 15,000 individuals and organizations every year. Founded in 1983, Advancing Justice-LA’s mission is to advocate for civil rights, provide legal services and education, and build coalitions to positively influence and impact Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders and to create a more equitable and harmonious society. Position Summary: Advancing Justice-LA seeks a seasoned, detail-oriented, energetic and strategic leader for a new position. The successful candidate is a strong leader with experience in fundraising, including success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors. This position works with the five-person development department, reports to the President & Executive Director, and has one direct report.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Develop and implement strategy to maintain and increase individual giving with an emphasis on major donors, including:Identify, qualify and cultivate prospects through data analytics, research, calls, events and visits;
Set up donor pipeline for major gift prospects through identification and qualification;
Create opportunities for prospect cultivation including one-on-one meetings and special events;
Arrange donor meetings with President & Executive Director, board members and senior staff;
Recommend strategies for solicitations and assisting with solicitations from individuals and corporations;
Develop and implement a stewardship program to ensure consistent touches with major donors; and
Manage effective systems for tracking and cultivating donors and prospects through organizational database.
Oversee and implement strategy to execute and grow donor events including the Annual Anniversary Dinner and Annual Luncheons.
Cultivate corporate relationships and solicit corporate sponsorships for various events.
Provide leadership and project management support to special events highlighting a research project on Chinese and Chinese American philanthropy.
Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Directors and Executive Advisory Council in their fundraising efforts.
Work with Communications team on the development of marketing and public relations materials, and to manage online/social media solicitations.
Represent Advancing Justice-LA at corporate and community events, as well as individual meetings.
Minimum of 5 plus years of development experience at a nonprofit required, with significant experience in major gift fundraising and corporate relations strongly preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and ability to successfully manage multi-functional areas (minimum of 3 years of management experience).
Proven success in developing and executing strategic, entrepreneurial fundraising initiatives.
Excellent skills in organizing, managing and marketing fundraising events and campaigns.
Exceptional written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills including experience with persuasive writing for donor proposals and strategies.
Excellent people skills, including experience working with board members, corporate liaisons and/or civic leaders.
Proven ability to work independently with the skills to handle multiple projects on various timelines.
Superior attention to detail.
Strong computer skills in MS Office programs (knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred).
Flexibility to work some nights and weekends.
Commitment to social justice and knowledge of Asian American and NHPI communities preferred.
College degree strongly preferred.
California driver’s license, insurance and access to a car required.
