Development Associate – Californians for Justice – Oakland, CA

Position Overview

The Development Associate will support our grassroots fundraising efforts, working directly with our Development Manager to plan and implement several annual individual donor fundraising campaigns, including a fundraising event. This is a great fit for someone who is seeking part-time work with a high level of responsibility and a fantastic opportunity to quickly gain fundraising and nonprofit experience.

The Development Associate will work approximately 10 hours per week regularly, and 15 hours per week during peak fundraising periods in April, June-July, and November-December. The Development Associate is a non-exempt, hourly position based in CFJ’s Oakland office.

Responsibilities

Drafting and editing appeal and thank you letters, forms, and materials for three annual fundraising appeals
Data entry and general database maintenance – including adding and removing records, deduplicating, generating reports, etc. in Salesforce and Salsa databases.
Organizing and conducting mass mailings
Helping to plan an annual fundraiser event, including soliciting in-kind donations of auction items
Calling current and prospective donors

Qualifications

Interest in working with nonprofits or in fundraising/development. Experience is a plus.
Able to work independently.
Excellent writing skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
High level of attention to detail.
Ability to enter large amounts of data quickly and accurately.

Work Environment:

This position will work out of CFJ’s office in Oakland. We are located on the second floor of a building. Offices are shared among several employees.

Physical Demands:

Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time. Able to read a computer screen. Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.
Able to speak clearly on the phone and in person and be understood by others.
Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 15 pounds.

Compensation:

$13-$15 per hour. CFJ provides a generous vacation, sick, and holiday policy.
