Development and Communications Associate – Boston – Beacon Academy

Beacon Academy is seeking a Development and Communications Associate to support the organization’s fundraising efforts. The Development and Communications Associate is a key member of Beacon Academy’s small but powerful fundraising team. Together, this efficient and dedicated team leads the organization to meet its fundraising goals each year. We pride ourselves on our attention to detail and strong personal relationships, both internally and externally. Because our team is small, and Beacon maintains its entrepreneurial spirit, any applicant needs to be willing to accept new challenges and come prepared to have their job description change at any moment.

Key responsibilities include:
Development
Promptly processing, coding, and acknowledging all donations.
Managing mailings to solicit, thank, and inform the 1,000+ members of Beacon’s community.
Ensuring that Beacon’s database of donor information remains up to date.
Assisting in creating annual appeals and other fundraising mailings.
Collaborating with the Foundations Officer to present compelling grants, budgets, and reports that express the school’s mission to foundations and organizations.
Gathering and analyzing fundraising data to create a picture of Beacon Academy’s donor community, development work, and organizational growth since its founding in 2005.
Working with board members and champions to track and meet their fundraising goals.
Conducting research on potential donors, foundations, or other non-profit organizations.

Events
Planning, preparing, and executing all events, from small-scale meetings with 15 donors to large benefits for 300 donors.
Producing invitations, event programs, and other materials.

Communications
Executing Beacon’s social media strategy, updating the school’s web and social media pages regularly.
Composing and sending email news updates and bimonthly newsletters.
Coordinating with team to create and design all marketing content including text, photographs, and infographics.

Administration/Additional Responsibilities
Supporting CEO with scheduling, calendar management, communications, and special projects.
Working closely with Bookkeeper on check reconciliation, receipt collection and processing, and other assignments as needed.
Providing office support to development team.
The position calls for a self-starter who has the ability to multitask under pressure, possesses strong writing and editing skills, and has an impeccable attention to detail. In addition, excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for working with donors as well as all volunteers and internal staff. Come with the energy to roll up your sleeves and work long hours! In our busiest times of year, you can expect to work 50+ hours per week. This position has opportunities for growth and new responsibilities depending on your skills and interests.

Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Ability to create and maintain friendly and professional relationships with staff, key stakeholders, and donors
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Passion for and commitment to the mission of Beacon Academy
Interest in learning development from the ground up

Preferred Skills
Experience working in development or for a political campaign
Experience working with volunteers
Salesforce or similar CRM database
Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
Graphic Design
Twitter, Facebook, and other social media
Wordpress
Photography and/or Video
Valid Driver’s License
