DAWN DC Events Coordinator – Diaspora African Women’s Network – Washington, DC

Diaspora African Women’s Network (DAWN) is an idea borne out of necessity. Geared towards supporting Africa’s next generation of women diaspora leaders, DAWN is a volunteer run, international professional association whose mission is to develop and support talented African diaspora women focused on African affairs.

Our 250 members hail from 38 African countries and the United States, Europe, Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East. Each diaspora woman is a proven leader with a professional focus on Africa.

The DAWN DC Events Coordinator will work directly with the DC Chapter Representative to execute event strategy consistent with DAWN’s mission, vision, and brand. Events include regular leadership and professional development seminars and monthly networking dinners and events.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for the planning, preparation, and logistical implementation of DAWN’s regular events.

Secure event venues

Create and manage Wild Apricot event registration

Collect & submit food/beverage orders

Secure photographer, social media content & volunteers

Attend at least three events

Work with staff to update DAWN events on the DAWN Calendar, and to plan and design program advertising.

Create and maintain a list of potential vendors: venues, photographers, caterers.

Experience:

2-4 years experience in event planning in Washington, D.C.

Familiarity with social media, especially Hootsuite, Twitter and Facebook, and web based platforms including WordPress and Google Docs

Working knowledge of women’s leadership, professional development events and African affairs.

Location: Washington D.C.

Hours: Varies; 7-10 hours/month, with work concentrated around scheduled events

This position is unpaid. Priority will be given to candidates who are available to start immediately.
