Job Description: Database Systems Manager

Reports to: Seth Hemond, Director of Member Programs and Participation

Classification: Excluded from the Staff Union bargaining unit (managerial/supervisory)/Salaried/overtime exempt position

Location: SEIU 775 headquarters, Seattle, WA

Summary: Manager level position requiring experience in data analytics and the design and management data reports of priority metrics that align with the mission of the union and support the officers and staff in managing the organizations programs and goals. In addition to very strong technical skills, this position will require exceptional managerial, business process analysis, and interpersonal skills.

Based in the Union’s Member Programs and Participation Department, the Data Systems Manager will work with managers from all departments across the union to elicit, analyze, specify and validate their data needs as stakeholders. The responsibilities of the position include:

Provide strategy, leadership and oversight of member activity data management, systems used in organizing, politics, and representation

Being proactive in researching new technologies to optimize the union’s business processes as it relates to data management. Apply analytical, project management and problem-solving skills to recommend good technology decisions.

Collaborate with campaign and project leaders to determine scope and vision; Interpret campaign or project leaders requirements into feasible options for data support and management. Manage and track the requirements through the campaign or projects lifecycle; enforce, adjust or re-define as necessary

Ongoing review, research, analysis, effectiveness, efficiency, and user experience of existing key database management tools

Provide leadership, training and support to a team of data analysts embedded in key union programs including organizing, collective bargaining and member representation. Provide tactical oversight of requests made of data analysts to insure value

Manage two-person team of data Admins and Entry Clerk

Develop and manage training and support for users

The Member Programs and Participation Department consists of six work teams, including teams (each with its own manager) for: leadership development program, collective bargaining/employer relations team, field canvass, member communications team, member benefits, and data systems team. The Department is innovating new ways to build the strength and effectiveness of the union through member leadership and activism.

Desired Skills and Experience

Field experience in union or community organizing or electoral politics desired
At least 7 years’ experience working with database systems and complex data reporting with increasing levels of responsibility
5+ years SQL and/or ApexSQL Programming experience
5+ years Salesforce implementation, customization, and administration
Excellent written, verbal communications skills including the ability to draw out needs from non-technical users and translate them into system tasks.
Strong project management skills – experience leading multiple small to medium-sized projects simultaneously
Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to take data/information and distill into insight useful to the union
Collaborative interpersonal style
Self-motivated yet open to direction and collaborative work; can thrive in a fast paced environment with limited supervision

Ability and willingness to work long hours and weekends when necessary. Travel as required.

Compensation: Salary range starts at $66k. Actual salary DOE. Benefits include fully employer-paid family benefits (includes domestic partner) for health, dental, pharmacy and vision coverage, fully employer-paid defined benefit pension (SEIU), disability and life insurance, a generous leave package, car allowance, an optional 401(K) plan, and other benefits outlined in the policies of SEIU 775.

Preferences: Fluency in a second language is plus. Experience working with a labor union, progressive non-profit, community organization, advocacy group, political campaign or elected official is a plus. Demonstrated commitment to creating positive worker/employer relationships while fighting to raise standards for all workers in the industry is also a plus.
