Community Programs Coordinator – Rainbow Center

DESCRIPTION
Scope of Work
The Community Programs Coordinator, under the supervision of the Rainbow Center Executive Director, is responsible for the following:
Be a resource for community members
In collaboration with the Executive Director, maintain and administer community program budget
Coordinate innovative educational programs for the community members of the RC
Implement and organize current programs including RC Late Nights and 50+ Lunch Bunch
Research and identify community program needs
Oversee development of new community programming
Develop culturally competent educational programming activities for community members at the RC
In collaboration with the Volunteer Coordinator, identify and be a resource to RC volunteers interested in leading programs for the community, helping them to create programs around their area of expertise as well as encouraging them to develop leadership skills
Develop and implement program evaluation tools that can be utilized to measure the effectiveness of programs and aide in the implementation of new programs
In collaboration with Development Director, identify possible sources of funding for innovative programs
Evaluate current RC resources for use in programming
Foster community growth amongst program participants
Promote program opportunities through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, MeetUp and others
Under the guidance of the coordinating committee, serve as a resource in the planning of an annual Queer and Trans People of Color conference/retreat
Attend meetings and represent the RC at events and outreach opportunities
Complete at least 40 (includes 30 hour training) hours during their first year, and 10 hours annually thereafter, of required training for all staff of community organizations providing services for victims of crime

The Community Programs Coordinator, under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for the following activities directed related to the general operation of the RC:

As part of the RC staff team, model and maintain a safe and respectful environment during center drop-in hours and ensure that RC visitors and volunteers follow established rules and boundaries.
Participate in planning of RC programs and provide educational and social outreach.
Document activities in accordance with standards set by the RC and funding sources.
Collect and input required data for grant submissions.
Assist in coordinating and organizing volunteers for everyday office tasks, as well as large scale events like the Tacoma Pride Festival and the Black & White Gayla.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Outgoing personality with high level of comfort meeting new people, engaging in social situations, working in collaboration with others, and empowering community leaders.
A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a related field (e.g. education, non-profit, counseling, psychology, social work, women’s studies, ethnic studies, public health, etc.).
One to two years of demonstrated experience coordinating programs or working on similar fields.
Experience, ability, desire, and commitment to work and identify with LGBTQ community of varying socioeconomic classes, identities, and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
Understanding of the LGBTQ community needs in Pierce County and surrounding areas.
Understanding of and commitment to working with older LGBTQ, transgender people of color, intersectional communities, and LGBTQ veterans.
Working knowledge and experience with the transgender community
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
Ability to work as a team member.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Drive (including gmail, google docs, etc).
Current Driver’s License, driver’s insurance and access to a reliable vehicle.
Required Washington State Patrol background check.
