Community Programs Advisor – Seattle Department of Neighborhoods

DESCRIPTION
The Department of Neighborhoods (DON) is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic, strategic thinker to join our team. This position works closely with community members, elected officials and their offices, senior executive and policy staff, and other department staff. Successful candidates will be comfortable working with a variety of audiences and customers, confident communicators, and knowledgeable in data-driven management strategies. This position will be a key resource within the department and will work across teams and divisions to successfully manage their workload.

DON serves residents of Seattle by providing programmatic support and building inclusive partnerships to ensure that they receive equitable access to government. This position will report to both the Community Investments Division Director and the Leadership Development Division Director and have primary responsibility for managing the participatory budgeting program. The position will also be responsible for a number of other programmatic and policy initiatives, including program support for various commissions such as the Seattle Youth Commission, and successful candidates will be comfortable in balancing multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.

Job Responsibilities
Serve as the program manager for Seattle’s participatory budgeting program, ‘Your Voice, Your Choice,’ responsible for overseeing all aspects of program planning and implementation including, budget and expense tracking, communications and outreach strategy and implementation, and resource management.
Keep current on best practices and trends in outreach and engagement methods, including digital engagement, as well as recommend opportunities to innovate within Your Voice, Your Choice and the department.
Represent the department with a variety of audiences including on interdepartmental teams, briefings, community meetings, and at City Council committee.
Convene and staff a steering committee for Your Voice, Your Choice.
Staff a number of policy initiatives and priorities as needed throughout the year, including serving as lead staff for the Seattle Youth Commission or other projects as needed.
Prepare briefing materials for the Mayor’s Office, City Budget Office and City Council.
May potentially supervise one staff.

Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Work or a related field.

Experience: At least three years of experience managing programs and relative experience with designing and evaluating programs (or a combination of education/experience/training which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Desired Qualifications:

Master’s degree in political science, public administration, public policy or related field.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully in an environment where you engaged a variety of individuals on sensitive issues and priorities.
Prior experience staffing an advisory board, commission, taskforce, or committee.
Experience as a community or campaign organizer.
Strong project management skills. with attention to details.
