ABOUT US:
Casa Cornelia Law Center (“CCLC”) is a public interest law firm serving San Diego County by providing quality pro bono legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations. CCLC has a primary commitment to the indigent within the immigrant community. Our programs include representation to those seeking asylum, abused and abandoned children, and immigrant victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other serious crimes who are eligible under U.S. law for immigration relief. CCLC provides such pro bono representation through support of volunteers, such as private attorneys, law students and interpreters/translators under the mentorship from CCLC staff attorneys.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Attorney/Director for the Victims of Crime (“VOC”) Program is responsible for providing direct legal representation and overseeing the delivery of quality legal services individuals eligible for asylum and related protection, U nonimmigrant status, T nonimmigrant status, protection under the Violence Against Women Act, and other related relief. S/he will train and mentor volunteer attorneys and supervise the work of law clerks, administrative interns, and volunteer interpreters and translators. S/he maintains a very active and extensive case load which includes direct representation and mentorship of volunteer attorneys.

REQUIREMENTS:
The VOC Director/Staff Attorney must be a licensed attorney in good standing, preferably in California. Must be able to practice before the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and its various departments/organizations. S/he must have a minimum of three years of legal experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have: direct immigration law legal experience both in affirmative and defensive cases; worked with victims of human or civil rights violations; supervisory experience and experience in managing and developing a legal program. The candidate must have excellent and professional written and verbal communication skills. S/he must be fluent and literate in the Spanish language. S/he must be committed to public interest legal services, able to exercise good judgment, and have strong and effective interpersonal skills. S/he must be willing and able to represent Casa Cornelia to the professional and educational community in furtherance of the VOC Program. S/he must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation and must pass a background check.

The VOC Program Attorney/Director is a full time position. Salary range is from $50,000-$55,000 depending on experience. This position is eligible to receive paid benefits including medical, vision, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance. Additionally, the selected candidate will qualify for paid time off, twelve paid holidays, and a rewarding and professional work environment.
