Associate Director – Valencia – CalArts

An energetic and highly motivated professional, the Associate Director is responsible for helping meet established fundraising targets and contributing to the overall growth of annual operating support of two key Institute programs: REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) and CAP (Community Arts Partnership), along with responsibilities in support of the CalArts Fund. She/he is responsible for devising and executing effective solicitation strategies to maximize comprehensive gift support from individuals (alumni, parents, friends, and REDCAT ticket buyers) for these programs. The Associate Director will work collaboratively as a member of the Advancement team to provide affiliation opportunities for CalArts alumni, parents, and friends to engage in the Institute. The Associate Director will manage and personally solicit a reasonably sized portfolio of individuals capable of making contributions in the $1,000 – $10,000 range. A key fundraiser on Leadership Gifts team, the Associate Director will report to the Director of Development, Individual Giving, and work closely with the Director of Leadership Gifts. He/she will have frequent interaction with donors and volunteers and work with the leadership team and administrators at REDCAT and CAP.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Manage fundraising for REDCAT & CAP including developing letters for annual solicitation program, supervising all components of each mailing including pledge cards and web pages, integrating telemarketing and email campaigns, and overseeing data management, list pulls and data manipulation and clean up.
• Work with Director of Leadership Gifts to achieve annual REDCAT Gala revenue goals.
• Manage REDCAT membership program, including writing and production of collateral materials, implementing and coordinating member events, ensuring benefit fulfillment, and all other activities related to an active program.
• Steward and help grow REDCAT & CAP Councils, the premier advisory and philanthropic support
groups. Working with program directors, manage and set agendas for Council meetings and help with hospitality and other administrative needs for these meetings.
• Encourage smooth, effective, and collegial operations with all program partners.
• Identify, cultivate, and personally solicit a reasonably-sized portfolio of donor prospects capable of making annual contributions in the $1,000 – $10,000 range.
• Responsible for generating reports and tracking results of fundraising activity and donor cultivation.
• Ensure appropriate donor acknowledgements for REDCAT and CAP including reviewing donor lists for REDCAT season brochures.
• Must work effectively with other coworkers to promote and maintain a positive work environment.
• Related duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• The candidate must possess exceptional organizational skills, strong written and oral communication
skills, effective interpersonal skills, keen attention to detail, perseverance, optimism, and the ability to think strategically and creatively toward the advancement of CalArts.
• Ability to analyze and synthesize both quantitative and qualitative information in order to advance strategic advancement plans.
• Requires ability to handle multiple assignments with minimum supervision while meeting strict deadlines.
• Skill in dealing with people, diplomacy, tact, maturity, discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

EXPERIENCE:
• The candidate will have a program management and fundraising background (minimum 5 years), preferably in the arts with a proven track record of success.
• Experience managing a membership program.
• Experience cultivating and successfully soliciting prospects capable of gifts at $1,000 – $10,000 level.
• Experience working collaboratively with colleagues, donors, and volunteers a must.
• Broad knowledge of the principles of fundraising – able to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers and senior administrators; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make personal solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors.
• Knowledge and deep interest in the arts, ability to intelligently discuss performances and exhibitions with donors and prospects, familiarity and appreciation with the Los Angeles cultural landscape.
• Strong computer literacy required including familiarity and comfort with spreadsheets and databases.
• Willingness to work weekends and evenings, as required.
