AmeriCorps HIV Prevention Specialist – Chicago – AIDS Foundation of Chicago

Primary Responsibilities:
Conducts test result disclosure and post disclosure counseling.
Provides health education and individual risk reduction counseling sessions.
Participates in the HIV-VIP program to assist with connecting individuals to care services.
Offer clients local community and medical referrals as needed.
Documents all required information for reporting purposes.
Completes and tracks all data collection forms, testing logs, and folders weekly and turns them in a timely manner.
Performs workplace training in local businesses, social service agencies, shelters, etc., as needed.
Collaborates with partnerships and area service organizations to promote social support networks for HIV risk reduction, testing and counseling and other available services for at risk population.
Assist in conducting literature searches and reviews.
Provides assistance/ logistics support for capacity building trainings.
Utilizes developed media/press releases and educational advertisements to promote events.
Keeps abreast of current issues related to HIV through professional publications and research.
Plans and implements special events for affected population.
Promotes HIV-specific testing days.
Complete and submit all necessary IPHA AmeriCorps paperwork and reports by pre-determined deadlines.
Attend all IPHA AmeriCorps trainings including orientation and team trainings.
Complete all IPHA AmeriCorps required National Days of Service projects.
Some local and out of town travel required.

IPHA AmeriCorps Position Requirements:
18 years of age or older by term of service start date.
U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or lawful permanent resident.
Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving an education award.
Complete Federal and State criminal background check, Sex Offender Registry check, and DCFS CANTS background check (all provided and coordinated by IPHA AmeriCorps Program)
Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance; or valid State ID
Regular and reliable attendance.
Ability to commit to the 11 month term of service.

Host Site Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS issues and case management required.
Must have active knowledge of technical assistance provision to service providers in a coordinated service system.
Computer proficient, including database programs.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines are critical.
Individual must possess strong verbal & written communication skills and have the ability to work with diverse populations.

IPHA AmeriCorps Position Benefits:
Full-time, 11 Month Position
Living Allowance: $12,530 (paid in equal disbursements twice per month during term of service).
Education Award: $5,775 Must complete 1700 hours of service to receive award. May be used to pay back qualified student loans or attend an institution of higher education.
Loan Deferment: Members do not have to pay back student loans while serving (this is not automatic- members must submit request through online portal).
Child Care Subsidy: Available to income-eligible, full-time members.
Health Insurance: Available to full-time members who are not otherwise covered during their term of service.
