Trans Services Coordinator – LGBT Center OC – Santa Ana, CA

Position Summary

The Trans* Services Coordinator is responsible for the development, maintenance and growth of the Trans*itions: Trans*affirming Health and Wellness Program. The coordinator oversees day-to-day operations of the program, including provision of outreach, education, and moderation between medical care and patients, and the National Trans Discrimination Survey (NTDS) of the National Center for Transgender Equality. Under the supervision of the Director of Prevention Services, the Trans Services Coordinator will manage educational projects (such as presentations and webinars), communications with organizational partners and collaborations, resources with the goal of creating culturally-responsive and cost-effective health care for the Orange County transgender community.

Primary responsibilities include:

Advocating for Affirmative Spaces for Transgender and Gender Non-conforming Individuals

Planning and hosting a monthly series on Transgender Health, Safety, Education, Employment, and Empowerment.
Planning Trans*itions Events: Transgender Day of Remembrance, Trans Pride, Community Forums, and related events.
Organizing and maintains legal and career counseling programs
Developing a Trans Leadership-Mentorship Program

Acting as an Active Voice for the Transgender Community

Attending staff and department meetings
Outreach for events and social support groups.
Collect surveys for the National Center for Transgender Equality
Communicate with staff to ensure updated calendars, content, and assistance in event planning.
Facilitation of Trans*Fusion and OK To Be Me: Trans Play Group

Establishing and Maintaining a Presence in the Community

Maintaining relationships with internal and external colleagues performing related work;
Attending mandatory trainings, meetings including LGBT Policing Partnership Meetings, and Orange County Transgender Coalition.
Collaborating with medical and behavioral health providers to create opportunities for quality care and services for the transgender community.

Educational Component

Attending Transgender focused seminars, and keeping updated on relevant literature to maintain familiarity with trends in services.
Creating literature used to educate the community on transgender health and resources.

Other tasks may be assigned as seen fit by the Director of Prevention Services or the Executive Director

Requirements:

Experience working with transgender and/or gender non-conforming people and familiarity with the target population desired.
Knowledge of transgender community resources and social centers in Southern California.
Experience with and knowledge of minority and underserved communities.
A demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, immigration statuses, HIV status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
Experience in managing social service programs or projects in a community setting.
Experience in advocacy and policy change initiatives.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft office and database management
Outstanding organizational and research skills.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
Current CA driver license and proof of insurance.
