AP’s Education team is seeking a

Policy Analyst. This position is ideal for recent undergraduates seeking nonprofit public policy and advocacy experience before applying to graduate or law school. The Policy Analyst will be supervised by the Education Equity Associate Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

o Help build and maintain collaborative relationships with broad array of stakeholders including service providers, LAUSD board members and staff, government officials, unions and other policy and research groups.

o Monitor and track foster youth program investment within LAUSD.

o Review and follow Local Control Funding Formula investments in foster youth programs in Los Angeles County and throughout the state.

o Provide research and administrative support for Education projects which include advocacy for early education, facilities development to offset K-12 overcrowding or lack of early learning opportunities, and P-12 education finance reform. Research areas include but are not limited to educational opportunities analysis for highest need communities, gap analysis in educational funding, and promising and best practices in early education for children 0-5 and foster youth.

o Extensive literature reviews and online research on various policy topics.

o Assist in developing policy briefs, report writing and quantitative analysis.

o Preparing materials and reports for meetings.

o Participate in meetings and strategy sessions with foster youth policy matter experts, nonprofits leaders, and government officials, especially as related to monthly meetings.

o Other related administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

o Strong academic background; BA or BS required, masters preferred.

o Background or avid interest in civil rights and social justice, public policy and advocacy work.

o Excellent written and oral communication skills.

o Strong analytic skills and/or experience with Excel preferred.

o Self-starter, organized, analytical and detail oriented.

o Strong internet research skills.

o Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member.

o Ability to multi-task under deadlines and work under pressure.

o Very high computer proficiency.

o One year commitment required.
