Founded in 1888, the Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) is part of the judicial branch, exercising a governmental function authorized by the Washington State Supreme Court to license the state’s nearly 36,000 lawyers and other licensed legal professionals. The WSBA both regulates lawyers under the authority of the Court and serves its members and licensees — funded by licensing and other fees, not state tax dollars. As a regulatory agency, the WSBA administers various admission and initial licensing processes for lawyers and other legal professionals; provides record-keeping and on-going licensing functions; and administers discipline systems for lawyers and other licensed legal professionals. The WSBA also providescontinuing legal educationfor lawyers, as well as numerous other educational and member-service activities.

The MCLE Manager leads the Mandatory Continuing Legal Education “MCLE” team in the Regulatory Services Department “RSD”. The MCLE Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the administration of, and member compliance with, the MCLE program for the WSBA’s 30,000+ members who are required to earn and report CLE credits. The MCLE Manager is also the Executive Secretary and WSBA Staff Liaison to the Washington Supreme Court’s MCLE Board.

The MCLE Manager is further responsible for Applying a thorough knowledge of the rules and regulations of APR 11 and Managing all annual processes required by APR 11 to ensure accuracy, efficiency, including; Course accreditation decisions and resolution of escalated complex issues; Appeals of decisions made by staff and/or the MCLE Board; Member requests for compliance requirement modifications, waivers and deadline extensions; Reinstatement of eligible members suspended for MCLE noncompliance; Sponsor MCLE requirement compliance; and Accreditation of sponsors, including the annual fee billing process; Notices of Upcoming Reporting Period [“July 1st] letters; Member MCLE compliance certification; Pre-suspension and Pendency notices to all eligible members and Suspension of members for MCLE noncompliance.

In addition to the MCLE Manager, the MCLE team consists of four analysts who report directly to the MCLE Manager. The MCLE Manager reports to the Associate Director of RSD and works with the associate director and two other RSD team managers to ensure department-wide cooperation and achievement of goals consistent with the WSBA’s mission and strategic goals.

Upcoming projects most likely include the implementation of a new MCLE rule and a new MCLE system-application to match. Due to these exciting challenges, we are looking for an individual who not only has regulatory and management experience, but also someone who is able to think outside of the box, adapt to change, and who is comfortable with and has experience with implementing and testing new technology.

Education: Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience, and at least 2 years of records management or related administrative experience. Highly Qualified candidates will have a JD, successful completion of Washington’s APR 6 Law Clerk program, or paralegal certification.

Requirements:Applicants must possess 3-5 years of experience directly related to any of the following: administration of regulatory rules and policies, legal, paralegal or other law-related experience, work with a bar association or other related field, project management, event management, database management, systems analysis, or crystal report writing. Highly qualified candidates will also have: Experience directly related to any of the following: working with boards or committees, working with volunteers, working with technology staff to enhance user systems, and direct supervision of employees

Ability to understand and interpret complex issues and rules and explain them to others. Initiative to solve problems that are discovered and to find new ways to improve efficiency, accuracy, timeliness and customer service is highly valued.
