Skills & Abilities:

The Manager of Self Sufficiency is committed to supporting the interests, abilities, self-determination, and self-reliance of survivors of domestic violence. This manager views domestic violence through a social justice lens, particularly focused on the intersections of gender, class, race, and privilege. This manager must be a creative problem solver who is empathetic both to the issues survivors face and the needs of the advocacy team who supports them. She/he is someone who is committed to the elimination of intimate partner and familial violence and is knowledgeable about economic justice issues and the intersections with violence, power, and control. The Manager of Self Sufficiency oversees a range of compliment services and staff that serve survivors and their children through risk assessment, safety planning, workshop development, and case management.

In partnership with the executive and management team, the Manager of Self Sufficiency is tasked with providing and overseeing direct services and creating and implementing survivor-centered programming around the areas of income, education, housing, employment, children, life skills, safety, wellness and others. This manager creates and maintains community relationships and partnerships. The managers at Next Door all train, model and provide direct services in addition to their delegation of duties.

You are a self-starter and able to manage multiple projects. In addition, you find advocating and problem solving most exciting. You are at your best in when able to be methodical though are undeterred by crisis.

The Manager of Self Sufficiency also recognizes and cultivates potential and leadership in others. You and your team work with survivors, community partners, and systems, requiring strong advocacy skills, patience, and optimism. When working with survivors or partners, you remain committed and connected to empowerment-based advocacy.

Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and oversee all self-sufficiency program activities in partnership with NDS management. Duties may include designing and monitoring program goals and outcomes, managing evaluation activities, creating and implementing workshops and other educational events, and assisting with the development of grant reports and project proposals.
Supervise, train, and support a team of domestic violence self-sufficiency case managers, advocates, and children’s staff.
Build and maintain relationships with community partners, with a focus on economic justice, housing, and anti-poverty agencies and collaborations.
Use creative collaborations to bring congruous programming to survivors.
Represent NDS in the community at collaborative meetings, presentations and trainings, outreach events, policy and contract negotiations, etc.
Develop, coordinate and provide trainings to community partners.
Regularly monitor and assess client data for the self-sufficiency department, and assist with preparation of program reports for internal and external audiences.
Work in collaborative partnership with other NDS program managers to ensure effective, client-defined service coordination and project success.
Provide direct case management and group services to domestic violence survivors through NDS’ survivor-defined lens.
Manage records to ensure confidentiality and safety for survivors, to meet reporting requirements, and to evaluate client services.

Requirements:

Bachelors’ degree in related field plus 3 years experience in the domestic violence or related social justice work OR at least 5 years experience in the domestic violence/social justice work.
Knowledge and interest in social justice intersections.
Commitment to the elimination of violence against women and girls.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Supervisory experience.
Ability to relate well people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
California Domestic Violence Counselor certification (40+-hour training) (provided upon hire).
Criminal background check (provided upon hire).

Preferred:

Knowledge and interest of local, regional, and national issues related to domestic violence.
Knowledge of Santa Clara County systems & service providers.
Graduate Degree (i.e. Masters in Social Work or similar). This is not a clinical position.
Bilingual
Paralegal Certification
