California Oil / Gas Manager – Clean Water Action National Office – Oakland, CA

Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund seek a program manager to run our California oil and gas program.

Primary responsibilities:

Develop and implement campaigns to protect California from dangerous oil and gas activities, through legislative, administrative, legal and organizing strategies.
Advocate for Clean Water Action’s positions in the state legislature; draft bill analysis and comments on bills, testify at hearings.
Engage with regulators to ensure oil and gas laws are adequately enforced and conduct advocacy to influence rulemakings and other administrative proceedings.
Conduct research and write reports on oil and gas issues in California.
Lead the organization’s emerging litigation strategy on oil and gas issues.
Develop campaign and other written materials, such as fact sheets, web content, online actions, social media and blog posts.
Manage staff and interns, including our Kern County based oil and gas staff.
Serve as a spokesperson for Clean Water on oil and gas issues in the media and at public events.
Cultivate and lead allies, and facilitate networks, partnerships, and coalitions.
Help raise funds to support our work, cultivating relationships with funders, writing grants and reporting to funders.
Carry out other duties as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred.
At least four years of work experience in environmental campaigns, policy or advocacy.
Understanding of California’s environmental regulatory structure and key agencies dealing with oil and gas regulation, and of California’s legislative systems and politics.
Comfortable working under pressure with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Well organized, good attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects.
Strong oral communication, including public speaking, and excellent writing skills.
Ability to research and understand complex and unfamiliar subjects.
Genuine passion for environmental issues.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to meet deadlines and complete assignments on time.
Willing to travel to Sacramento and Bakersfield regularly.
Bi-lingual Spanish and English speaker preferred.
