JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Position: Attorney

Summary: Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) believes that legal education, advocacy and representation can be the difference between adversity and opportunity and that meaningful access to justice improves lives. LACLJ is currently recruiting for an attorney to provide representation to low-income litigants in high-conflict custody cases, including cases involving domestic violence. The ideal candidate for this position has three to five years of litigation experience in family law matters and enjoys working in a fast-paced litigation environment.

Essential Functions:

Conduct client interviews and case assessments.
Represent clients in negotiation settlements, court hearings and trials.
Perform legal research, draft legal documents, and conduct discovery.
Provide or assure provision of safety planning for domestic violence survivors.
Provide or assure referrals to appropriate community services.
Maintain client files and collect project-related data.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

J.D. degree and membership in good standing in the California Bar.
At least 3-5 years litigation experience in family law matters preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of family law.
Fluency in Spanish required.
Previous experience working with domestic violence survivors.
Demonstrated commitment to public interest work.
Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
Ability to work successfully with people from diverse backgrounds and all levels of personnel.
Strong time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
