Kitchen Manager – Harmony Hill Retreat Center – Union, WA

Summary Description of Position:

The Kitchen Manager oversees the daily operations of the Harmony Hill Kitchen, ensuring a healthy, high-quality food experience for our guests. Working in collaboration with the Assistant Kitchen Manager, this position serves as the primary contact for all matters related to Kitchen staffing; menu creating (including specialized menus for guests with dietary restrictions); food preparation policies and production; food service health and safety regulation compliance; and Kitchen budget preparation and monitoring. May occasionally be required to perform duties of Kitchen staff, including but not limited to lead/prep cook, product ordering/shopping/stocking, cleaning, and administrative paperwork.

Culinary and/or nutritionist training preferred. Prior experience working with populations with cancer or compromised immune systems, as well as vegetarian/vegan menu preparation. Full-time. Flexibility to work all shifts as required, including evenings, weekends, and possibly holidays. Must be able to stand for extended periods, possibly for an entire work shift. Must be able to sit, bend, crouch, walk, negotiate stairs, push/pull, lift, carry, grasp, reach, taste, and smell.

Essential Functions:

Ability to read/write English and to accurately and easily communicate instructions to staff, co-workers and guests
Ability to plan, organize, direct, coordinate and delegate tasks and responsibilities to subordinate staff
Kitchen staff supervision, training, mentoring, evaluation and discipline
Contact rental group representatives and key participants for information pertaining to dietary restrictions and issues
Menu creation, including as pertains to restricted dietary needs
Establish contact with rentals groups while onsite for relationship creation
Thorough knowledge of kitchen safety and emergency procedures
Ensure compliance with food quality and safety standards and procedures
Inventory control, requisition, shopping and stocking for all Kitchen and Guest Services needs
Preparation and regular monitoring of Kitchen budget
Attend staff and management meetings as requested

Additional Duties:

Coordination of daily work schedule for Kitchen, Hospitality and Housekeeping staffs
Review and approval of timekeeping records for all Kitchen staff each pay period
Oversee list of miscellaneous tasks for Hospitality staff to address
Manage Harmony Hill Gift Nook, ensuring inventory is kept at appropriate levels and regularly monitored; pricing is set for and visible on all products; shop areas are kept clean, maintained and stocked; and budget/profit analysis is regularly reviewed
Adhere to all work rules, policies and procedures as set forth by Harmony Hill, including but not limited to those contained in the Employee Handbook.

Required Work Experience and/or Training:

Previous experience in a commercial cooking capacity
Previous experience in a supervisory/leadership role
Previous experience working in a customer-focused environment
Preferred experience in a retail sales environment
Current Washington State Food Handler’s permit
Excellent tenure at previous jobs – no more than 3-4 jobs in 10 years
Reliable transportation
Must pass Washington State background check

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to speak/read/write English fluently
Leadership, organizational, customer service, time management and problem-solving skills
Flexible to work all shifts as required, including evenings, weekends and possibly holidays
Able to bend, reach, and stoop, as well as to work in a standing position for extended periods up to and including a full work shift
Capable of moving and lifting 25 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 40 lbs
