Speech Language Pathologist – AMAC – New York, NY

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for organizing and implementing a therapy program to meet the needs of speech, language, and hearing impaired students.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

    Planning:

Designing the speech language pathologist program so that it is consistent with the total educational philosophy of the school.

Continuing professional growth through educational meetings, professional development, visiting related facilities and exchanging ideas among the district staff.

Working in coordination with teachers in planning, developing and implementing the program.

    Programming:

Preparing educational plans annually for each student based on individually assessed needs in accordance with state procedures.

Preparing therapy plans for each student.

Providing appropriate schedules for students.

Participating on evaluation teams for speech, language and hearing impaired students as appropriate.

Providing speech and/or hearing screening tests for all students referred by the in-school staffing committee.

Providing diagnostic/evaluation testing for students requiring speech screening.

    Public Relations:

Cooperating with school personnel in coordinating services within the school.

Assist in developing and conducting an in service program to inform classroom teacher of the goals and objectives of the program and ways of achieving them in the school setting.

Conferring with the classroom teacher as requested concerning educational needs of the students.

Making available to teachers instructional ideas that are appropriate for the students within the classroom.

Communicate with parents on a regular basis to ensure that they are informed with regard to student progress, and that interventions are incorporated into home activities as appropriate.

Create solutions to challenges for individual students, which are based in research and sound professional judgment.

    Reporting:

Ensuring that each student has necessary evaluation records in his/her permanent folder.

Furnishing the Educational Director with current student’s schedules.

Completing progress reports on each student

Supplying progress reports to school personnel and to parents of students as necessary and requested.

Completing appropriate reports for local, state, federal and educational agencies.

Referring students who require further evaluation or follow-up services to the appropriate school personnel.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree

Valid NYS TSHH/TSLD Certification

Certificate of clinical competence (ASHA)

Experience working in public schools

Experience tracking case notes in Easy Trac

    Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis and working with students with disabilities
