Resource Development Director – Neighborhood Partnership Housing Services – Rancho Cucamonga, CA

Summary

The Resource Development Director is responsible for generating philanthropic and other socially motivated funding to support NPHS’ affordable housing and community development programs and services. Reporting to and working closely with the CEO, the Director will execute a comprehensive strategy to develop and strengthen mutually beneficial relationships with corporate, foundation, institutional and individual funders. The Resource Development Director is also responsible for implementing the organization’s marketing strategy. The Director will work collaboratively across departments and contribute to NPHS’ thought leadership and decision-making. This position is heavily focused on identifying, writing and submitting various types of grants applications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Fundraising 75%:

Research, develop (including technical writing) and submit grant requests for new and ongoing capital, operating, and program funding.
Proactively and systematically identify, engage and cultivate relationships with potential funders, including corporations, governments, foundations, individuals, and institutions.
Craft and articulate compelling, fact-based narratives and statements of need to support funding opportunities.
Work independently to identify, engage and cultivate relationships with philanthropic donors and socially motivated finance partners.
Manage and continuously enhance relationships with current and past funders.
Design, implement, and administer funder relationship management and reporting functions.
Ensure that appropriate systems and procedures are in place to track and report use and performance of funds.
Identify, research, and monitor local and national trends and data regarding affordable housing and community development funding to help position NPHS as a leader.

Craft and articulate compelling, fact-based narratives and statements of need to support funding opportunities.
Support and engage organization leadership and staff to adopt, incorporate, and enhance fundraising efforts. In particular, train and continuously support staff to identify funding opportunities, and effectively steward and report on funds.
Collaborate effectively across departments, with a focus on identifying, seizing, and stewarding funding opportunities that can empower each department’s success.
Work closely and effectively with NPHS’ Board members to expand and leverage their fundraising abilities, particularly by training and working with them to identify and cultivate new and continuing funding relationships.
Assist in the development of communications tools and external relations strategies.
Assist with planning and directing of special fund raising events.
Contribute substantive fact-based thought leadership on how affordable housing and community development services improve opportunity and equity for low-income people, and why/how the Mission of NPHS is integral to broad community priorities such as advancing Community Wealth Building, Homeownership Finance, Redevelopment and Realty program and services.
Be fully committed, compassionate and engaged in NPHS’ Mission.
Manage all department staff.

Marketing and Public Relations 25%:

Working closely with the CEO develop and implement and effective marketing and public relations strategy.
Manage and guide professional services contractors, such as marketing and web-service consultants, to ensure organization is receiving excellent work product and value. Work with vendors to maintain and update NPHS website and social media on a regular basis.
Develop collateral materials which include; newsletters,news releases, fact sheets, media kits, brochures, fliers and other materials needed for effective communication and marketing of NPHS’ programs and services.
Identify stories, create content (write articles and coordinate graphics) and deploy company newsletter on a scheduled, monthly basis.
Write and send press releases announcing large grant contributions, property donations, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, new initiatives and other newsworthy stories.
Plan and coordinate Annual Dinners, NeighborWorks Week events, media/press events and all other events related to fundraising, marketing and public relations.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business, communications, public relations, marketing, social work or related field required. MBA or MPA preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a fundraising professional, preferably in a non-profit setting, is required. Proven success in resource development for a medium/large nonprofit and experience in a management position with demonstrable success is required.

Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and independently. Ability to display resourcefulness and problem-solving skills.
