Relationship Violence Prevention Coordinator (Bilingual English/Spanish) – Center for Community Solutions – San Diego, CA

Position Summary: Responsible for developing and implementing an educational outreach and prevention program serving the Northern Inland, Eastern, and Central regions of San Diego County. The Prevention Educator works as part of a team to create and implement a comprehensive program plan based on primary prevention of relationship and sexual violence through building individual knowledge and skills and mobilizing the community to decrease the social and cultural norms that support violence. This position requires establishing and maintaining partnerships with co-workers, professionals, schools, and community groups.

Essential Job Functions

Training and education: develop and implement a comprehensive primary prevention program based on best practices under the direction of the Prevention & Education Director.

Research, develop, and produce training units, training materials, including handouts, PowerPoint presentations, experiential exercises, and practical application tools that are culturally and developmentally appropriate for each audience served.
Create and deliver community outreach and educational presentations, workshops, and trainings in the community according to CCS standards.
Maintain current, accurate knowledge and expertise in the areas of sexual assault, relationship violence, self-defense, relationship health, and community development.
Develop a work plan that meets or exceeds the outreach/training/education scopes of work for San Diego County Contracts. Ensure that outreach targets diverse groups as directed by funders and/or CCS priorities.
In cooperation with CCS leaders, provide training and technical assistance to CCS staff to help them develop outreach tools, sexual assault and domestic violence education, and professional presentations for use in their role as community consultants.

2. Documentation: Provide accurate documentation of outreach, education, and evaluation to comply with funder and CCS guidelines.

Document presentations in Efforts to Outcomes database and submit monthly report of activities to Prevention and Education Director.
Document and analyze evaluation and outcomes data on a regular basis and report to Prevention and Education Director.
Establish and maintain “Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Crisis Counselor” status as defined by California Evidence and Penal Codes and maintain current knowledge of crisis intervention by attending and providing documentation of ongoing trainings as directed.

Accurately document time worked using designated electronic time-keeping program, and submit required timesheets and personnel and departmental paperwork (e.g., mileage reimbursement) according to agency standards and due dates.

3. Teamwork and Community Relations: Work as part of the Prevention and Education and CCS teams to uphold the mission, vision, and values of CCS within the organization and with community partners.

Establish partnerships with schools, universities, service agencies, the faith community, community collaboratives, and other community-based groups to publicize and promote CCS services. Initiate contact with potential outreach sites through site visits, mailings, phone calls, or e-mails monthly.
Participate in agency-wide strategic planning under the guidance of the Prevention and Education Director.
Provide professional, courteous service to all clients to create an atmosphere of empathy, safety, and support during encounters.
Represent CCS to the public and media when requested.
Work to eliminate barriers to service, particularly for members from historically oppressed communities.
Carry out other projects/tasks as necessary to ensure program and organizational success. All CCS staff members are encouraged to be flexible and responsive to changes in scope of duties.

Maintain a working knowledge of referral resources.
Participate in Prevention and Education team meetings and supervision meetings.
Participate in interdisciplinary cross-trainings with other CCS programs and other community partners as requested by supervisor.

Essential Job Requirements

EDUCATION

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated experience of no less than one year providing community education, training, and/or group facilitation.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, SPECIALIZED TRAINING

Knowledge of individual, social, and relational dynamics relative to relationship and sexual violence.
Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish.
Excellent public relations, public speaking, and community development skills.
Knowledge and practice in training and facilitation techniques, and an understanding of interactive training approaches.
Demonstrated work initiative in an unstructured setting.
Ability to develop compelling curricula that can be easily adapted to a diversity of cultural groups.
Excellent time-management skills. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and complete projects in a fast-paced, changing environment with minimal supervision.
Computer skills to include mastery of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and Power Point. Comfort in a network environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
Must demonstrate an acceptance and respect for cultural diversity in all its forms, including ethnicity, sexual orientation, abilities, and religious backgrounds and an ability to work collaboratively in an ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse environment.
Completion of 60-hour California state-approved Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training required (or must be completed upon hiring).

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of evidence-based public health, domestic violence, and sexual violence prevention methods, models, and theories and ability to contribute to institutional knowledge on the subject.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Department of Justice Live Scan criminal background clearance.
Access to reliable transportation available for job-related duties, valid driver’s license, and proof of automobile insurance.
Negative drug-screen test.
TB test showing negative for infectious tuberculosis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Ability to drive personal vehicle for long periods to serve worksites in various locations of San Diego County.
Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
Ability to work in domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking fields, which inherently create safety concerns at times.
Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
Schedule requires flexibility and adjustment for some weekend and evening training commitments.
