What is the Opportunity?

The Proposal Writer is responsible for research, technical writing, budget development and related functions in the preparation of proposals in response to competitive Requests for Proposals, grant solicitations, notices of funding availability, etc.

The key duties and responsibilities of the Proposal Writer are to:

Research, track, and monitor competitive bidding opportunities that align with Build It Green’s mission and core competencies
Lead development of written proposals in response to competitive bidding opportunities from utilities, government agencies, foundations, and related sources. Role includes writing new content and editing content from other contributors and prior proposals; development of proposal budgets in collaboration with implementation team; assembly of bios, resumes, and supporting documentation as specified in the RFPs; overall quality control of the proposal; and production and submittal of proposals within specified time constraints.
Contribute to ongoing business development research, including program opportunities, best practices in program design, competitive analysis, etc.

Depending on the selected candidate’s skill sets and business development work load, the Proposal Writer may also be called upon to support program implementation activities such as:

Edit technical content such as training manuals, contractor handbooks, and similar documents on behalf of program implementation teams
Contribute written content as needed to the marketing and communication team

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
4 years of professional experience in a capacity that emphasizes proposal writing, grant writing, technical writing, and business development or fundraising
Intermediate working knowledge of energy efficiency, green building, climate change, or related field, preferred
Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to listen effectively, to select and use appropriate communication methods, and to present ideas and information effectively, both orally and in writing
Ability to communicate with diverse audiences, and to know the appropriate communication method for the given audience
