Program Manager, Training / Community Programs – Berkeley Repertory Theatre – Berkeley, CA

The Berkeley Repertory Theatre, a Tony Award-winning theatre company in Berkeley, CA, seeks a highly motivated individual for the position of Program Manager, Training and Community Programs at the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre. While this is primarily an administrative position, we are looking for an individual who also brings past experience as a theater educator with a strong working knowledge of the performing arts, K-12 education issues and leadership development.

This position will focus on the following programming areas:

Teen Council

Strategic oversight and implementation of the Teen Council program, an afterschool teen arts immersion, leadership development, and mentorship program. Current program components include Teen Nights, Teen One-Acts Festival, monthly workshops, arts education advocacy initiatives, and attendance at nation conferences.

Cultivate, train, and mentor Teen Council’s leadership group.

Manage the Teen Council budget and cash flow. Hire staff for workshops and coordinate volunteer, catering, and material needs. In partnership with Development staff, lead teen-led fundraising campaign to support annual leadership trip. Oversee all Teen Council marketing and communications including social media, website, and print.

Manage evaluation of program components including benchmarks for student leaders.

Fellowship

Oversight of Berkeley Repertory Theatre’s fellowship program including curation of monthly meetings, mentorship, recruitment and the application process.

Along with School of Theatre staff, mentor and train School of Theatre Fellow in program development and implementation, marketing, advocacy, and arts education techniques.

Docents

Act as staff liaison and coordinator of the Berkeley Rep Docent Program, a team of approximately 20 volunteers who prepare and deliver pre-show presentations and facilitate post-show discussions. Advise on content, prepare materials and online resources, connect docents to theatre artists and staff, manage calendars, coordinate facilities usage, and create training opportunities.

Planning and implementation of supplemental educational programming and events in association with Berkeley Repertory Theatre productions.

Additional

Developing partnerships/relationships with local youth-focused arts organizations.

Depending on experience, will occasionally be asked to lead theatre workshops, either as part of the Teen Council program or in a school or community setting.

Representing Berkeley Rep School of Theatre in the community

Qualifications: Position reports to the Director of the Berkeley Rep School of Theatre. A competitive candidate would have experience successfully managing multiple projects. Must be computer literate and able to multi-task; possess sharp grammar, proofreading, and budgeting skills; have strong follow-through, outstanding people skills, and enjoy working with children, particularly teenagers. The ideal person for this position thrives in a collaborative, sometimes chaotic environment, is a self-starter who is able to work both independently and collaboratively, and is available to work evening and weekend hours as the position demands.
