Organizational Overview

Castlemont Community Transformation Charter (www.cctschools.org) is a TK-8 charter school opening in fall committed to serving families in East Oakland. The school will open with grades TK, K, 1st and 6th grade. CCTS seeks to transform young people into agents of social change through the highest quality education and wrap around services from cradle to career.

The Opportunity

The Head of Student Supports & Counseling provides students and their families support based on each student’s Individual Student Success Plan. S/he will also set high expectations for college and career and will work individually with students to map out pathways to reach their career goals.

Essential Responsibilities

Develop and manage a comprehensive school counseling program
Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program
Communicate the goals of the comprehensive school counseling program to education stakeholders
Use the majority of time providing direct services such as academic guidance, individual student planning, and preventive and responsive services
Delivery of a comprehensive school counseling program

Guidance Program

Provide leadership and collaborates with the school leadership team to ensure the implementation of the school counseling program
Implement developmentally and appropriate prevention-­‐oriented group activities to meet the student needs and school goals

Individual Student Planning

Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals, and plans
Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data
Collaborate with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational and career planning

Preventive and Responsive Services

Provide individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs
Consult and collaborates effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, school leadership, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified needs and concerns
Suggest and connect families with appropriate social services
Implement an effective referral and follow-­‐up process
Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual group counseling services

System Support

Provide appropriate information to staff related to the comprehensive school counseling program
Assist teachers, parents/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data
Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills
Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program
Adhere to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the counseling profession

Qualifications

Bachelors degree required; graduate degree preferred
Valid Pupil Personnel Services credential
Complete basic skills requirement (CBEST)
Two or more years as guidance counselor, student services, social services, training, development or related positions
Experience in an educational organization with focus on improving student performance

Knowledge, Ability, and Skills

Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
Demonstrated ability to engage families in culturally appropriate ways
Conflict resolution and mediation skills required, experience implementing restorative justice, preferred
Bilingual preferred
