GED Program Coordinator – Mission Neighborhood Centers Inc – San Francisco, CA

Mission Neighborhood Centers is seeking a GED Program Coordinator who will work with the Precita Center Director to provide job services to youth that are registered in the GED Program. This position is responsible for providing assessments and developing an appropriate post-graduation plan, tracking the student’s time in the program and regularly check-ins throughout their time in the program and up to six (6) months after.

The GED Coordinator will coordinate and lead a comprehensive GED preparation program which includes outreach, recruitment, intake, assessment, classroom instruction, individualized tutoring, as well as develop and facilitate workshops that build on the expertise of participants to provide training that will be immediately useful in participants’ search for employment. This position requires working knowledge of relevant community resources and building partnerships amongst community agencies and a compassionate approach to working with children and families of diverse economic, social, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds.

Primary Duties

Create and maintain confidential student files for GED participants including test scores and GED exam completion records
Maintains effective working relationships with youth participants and assist in creating post-graduation plans
Coordinate service, counsel, and enroll youth into/back in educational or vocational training setting
Advocate and facilitate community referrals, and serve as a liaison to assure connections with community support services that are consistent with youth’s needs and wants
Performs assessments of work and training history, barriers to employment, goals, and interests
Track graduates up to 6 months after graduation with bi-monthly check-ins and write follow-up progress reports

Meetings with Academic Coordinator to discuss student progress

Assist and accompany students for GED Test registration
Prepare and submit monthly reports with attendance records
Work closely with participants’ needs and make appropriate referrals, act as a liaison with school, community, public agencies, parents/guardians, and other non-profit social service agencies
Attends community, MNC and Coordinator meetings as well as networking groups such as SFJDA and SFYEC
Outreach and recruit to referral sources and the public to attract students to participate in program. Develop student retention plans.
Recruit to the general public to attract volunteers and tutors to participate in program. Establish community relationships to coordinate guest speakers based on expertise in the field.
Facilitate job search workshops including, job search planning and career advancement using community resources, application assistance, job search organization, resume assistance, interview skills, lead development and networking, engagement and job retention
Knowledge of community college admissions policies and registration processes or acquire knowledge
Knowledge and adherence to MNC’s policies, procedures, objectives, and quality assurance

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) or successfully working towards a BA/BS with a current transcript on file in Social Work, Counseling or Psychology or related field.
5+ years work supervisory experience with high risk youth
Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)

Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal (excellent spelling and grammar) to individuals and groups
Proven organization skills, including the ability to manage priorities and workflow, set goals and objectives, maintain proper records, schedule others and develops realistic action plans
Experienced at developing and supporting a culture of teamwork
Personality: dependable, dedicated, takes initiative, detail oriented, takes pride in producing quality work, able to work independently

Supports the mission, vision and values of Mission Neighborhood Center
CPR First Aid Training Certificate or the ability to take and pass a certification course upon hire
Current CA Drivers License, current auto insurance, a clean driving record, and insurable under the organization’s minimum criteria for driving company vehicles and program participants.
Background Check clearance upon hire – FBI/DOJ Fingerprint, Child Abuse Index, Physical Exam, TB Test and pass the Juvenile Probation Clearance requirements.

Benefits

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week-typically Monday through Friday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m, however, must have schedule flexibility to attend required morning meetings and occasional weekend sessions or events, with a salary of $43,680 to $47,840 plus an excellent benefit package, which includes:
