Executive Director – NorthWest PBIS Network – Seattle, WA

NorthWest PBIS Network is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to establish and sustain safe, positive and inclusive learning environments for all.

We accomplish this by:

• Providing leadership and advocacy activities that increase political support, visibility and funding for School Wide PBIS implementation;

• Offering training and technical assistance to develop and sustain local capacity; and

• Fostering and facilitating opportunities for networking to advocate for and support implementation of PBIS.

Specific activities include:

Conferences: a fall conference in Washington with about 500 attendees and a spring

conference in Oregon with about 1200 attendees.

Coaches Institutes: a fall institute in Oregon and a winter institute in Washington.

Summer Institutes: in both Oregon and Washington.

Professional Development: contracts with school districts, regional organizations, or states to provide professional development to staff implementing PBIS. For example, we have a contract with the Oregon Department of Education to provide training, coaching and technical assistance to 20 school districts across the state.

Political Advocacy and Collaboration: NorthWest PBIS co-convenes with the Washington Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the statewide leadership team for implementation of statewide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.

History:

NorthWest PBIS Network began in 1998 as an informal volunteer network in Oregon and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization in 2008. We hired our first staff in 2013. Currently, we have eight staff members in two offices (Portland area and Seattle) and a budget of close to $1 million.

THE POSITION

The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and has overall strategic and operational responsibility for NorthWest PBIS Network’s staff, programs, finances and general fulfillment of its mission and strategic plan.

We are seeking a leader who is passionate about providing children and youth an

educational experience that ensures participation, engagement and social, academic and emotional success. The Executive Director may work out of either the Seattle or Portland office and some travel is required in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Management:

• Lead, develop, support, coach and retain effective staff

• Ensure quality of administration, communications and operational systems to facilitate a productive and efficient work environment

• Ensure financial sustainability of the organization including budgeting and oversight.

• Actively engage stakeholders, including the Board of Directors and collaborate with other organizations both locally and nationally

• Develop, maintain, engage and support a strong Board of Directors; serve in an ex-officio capacity on the board and committees

• Create alignment of stakeholders through inspired implementation of the strategic plan

Programs and Services:

• Oversee the planning and implementation of programs in alignment with the strategic plan

• Encourage and foster best practices for training, coaching, technical assistance and events

• Ensure excellence through the delivery of highly-valued, effective programs and services

• Support and provide guidance for program staff

• Ensure effective evaluation methodologies to track progress against goals

Outreach and Communications:

• Deepen and refine current communications activities to create stronger visibility throughoutWashington, Oregon and Idaho.

• Develop relationships to garner new opportunities

• Serve as a local and national spokesperson for NorthWest PBIS Network

• Oversee external communications including marketing, publicity and public relations

Advocacy:

• Pursue local, regional and national collaborations with other organizations when such collaborations help to better achieve NorthWest PBIS Network’s mission

• Work with the Board of Directors and staff to fulfill advocacy goals

• Work with State Departments of Education, state legislators, the governor’s office and other organizations to advocate for legislation and policies that will help the NorthWest PBIS Network achieve its mission

Stewardship:

• Create a fundraising culture within the organization

• Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support the organization’s mission

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• A passion for PBIS; some experience with PBIS preferred

• Demonstrated ability to lead, support and inspire staff while creating a compelling vision for the future

• Excellent communication skills, including a readiness to solicit and share information and solicit and incorporate advice

• Demonstrated experience developing and monitoring an organization with an annual budget of at least $500,000

• Demonstrated aptitude for thinking and acting from a systems model, able to articulate and critique the interplay of complex organizational and environmental factors impacting the achievement of the organization’s mission and vision

• Demonstrated skill in diversifying and increasing the fundraising capacity of an organization

• Demonstrated experience successfully advocating for an organization on legislative, state and local levels and/or collaborating with related stakeholder organizations to implement system-wide change

• At least five years proven success in a leadership position of an organization, (preferably a nonprofit) including working with a Board of Directors.

• Masters Degree or higher

NorthWest PBIS Network offers a competitive compensation package. Salary range is $85,000 -$92,000 plus benefits, depending on experience and location. Benefits include medical insurance, vacation, life insurance and a retirement plan.
