Early Childhood Development / Education Policy / Research Consultant – A World at School – Washington, DC

A World at School, a project of UK charity Theirworld, is looking for a part-time consultant to support research and policy for our expanded work on Early Childhood Development and Education. Contract is for 3 months initially with potential extension for 1-2 years.

The right candidate must have the following essential skills:

Exceptional research and writing — including the ability to write for a diversity of audiences and in a variety of styles — and in particular for policy-makers, youth, the private sector and the engaged public.
Knowledge and experience working in ECD policy
Understanding of challenges and opportunities in broader development and poverty focused work
Ability to meet deadlines, respond quickly to requests as opportunities arise and work cross-culturally

Key deliverables will include:

Baseline creation on progress at global and country level (select countries) and materials for communicating progress to date
Research and materials to support the case for investment, especially for the most marginalized children and those affected by HIV and AIDS.
Research and materials creation for the engagement of young people through our Global Youth Ambassador program and other members of the community at country level to support their expression of demand for services
Research and materials creation to engage and support the efforts the private sector in particular the Global Business Coalition for Education Early Childhood Development Taskforce
Research and materials to engage and support the efforts of the Global Faiths Coalition for Education and other faith-based partners
Research and materials as needed to support the global/country level campaign and campaign activities as needed

The following skills will ensure potential candidates stand out:

Masters degree or higher or equivalent work experience in relevant field
Experience with policy change at the country level
Proven track record of conducting relevant research for advocacy
Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and vulnerable children advocacy and challenges
Experience working in Kenya and/or East Africa
