POSITION SUMMARY

The Bayview Hunter’s Point YMCA, Burton High School and the San Francisco Beacon Initiative seek a new director for the Bayview Beacon. The successful candidate will have proven expertise in strategic organizational leadership, developing vision-driven programming, budget management, staff development, contract compliance, and implementing community schools strategies. S/he will be a dynamic thought partner for the principal, participate on several leadership teams, as well as coordinate a number of collaborative efforts for the school and for the Bayview Y.

Bayview Beacon Center at Burton (hub): The Bayview Beacon Center is a program of the Bayview YMCA and part of the San Francisco Beacon Initiative (SFBI). Together, the Beacon and the school implement the community schools approach ensuring that every student graduates college ready. BHS promotes a nurturing, equitable school culture committed to high-level academic achievement for all students. The Beacon Center gives youth the tools to thrive, while also strengthening the legs that support them: parents, family and community. All Beacon programs and services are free and are open to everyone — especially students, parents and residents of Bayview Hunters Point, the Portola District and Visitation Valley.

Bayview Beacon Center at MLK (satellite site): Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School is the Beacon Center’s satellite site. Its philosophy is to cooperate, participate, communicate, work and learn together in order to produce a harmonious, productive, pluralistic society of lifelong learners. Many of MLK’s students attend Burton for high school.

The ideas and actions in the plan focus on one central idea: every child has the right to be well-educated. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of 5 years experience in administration and/or project management in a nonprofit setting.
A minimum of 5 years experience managing a large staff.
A minimum of 3 years experience managing program budgets with multiple budget streams.
Successful fund development experience, including grant writing and implementation of other fund development strategies.
Entrepreneurial spirit, able to thrive and produce in dynamic environments
Understanding of community- and school-based programming based upon Youth Development, the Learning In Afterschool & Summer Principles, the Common Core State Standards, and the Five Protective Factors.
Able to effectively communicate to individuals and groups, both verbally and in writing.
Experience in providing broad-based services to diverse populations.
Knowledge of community and community building systems.
Courteous, professional, and able to reason logically.
Detail-oriented and well organized.
Able to establish and meet deadlines.
Has a passion for developing and sustaining quality services for youth and families, and a desire to learn and understand needs of YMCA/BHS and MLK/SFBI’s constituents, staff, and partners.
Meets all state required conditions of employment as set forth by Community Care Licensing for a Licensed Community Care facility; i.e. Fingerprint and child Abuse Index clearance, TB/Health Physical, valid CDL and clean driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

All employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationship over minors. Fingerprints will be taken upon commencement of employment and will be submitted to the Association Office human resources department prior to beginning the first day of work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
Demonstrate the Character Counts values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.
Demonstrate competencies in and willingness to develop in the Cause Driven Leadership areas of mission advancement, collaboration, operational effectiveness and personal growth.
Oversee the development and implementation of Beacon programming. Manage initiatives to identify community needs, establish program priorities, and execute the strategic plans to address these needs and priorities..
Lead and supervise financial systems, including budgeting, grant implementation, and fund development. Ensure that financial targets are set and met on an annual basis.
Ensure that structures are in place for timely program data collection, regular reporting to funders, and punctual submission of invoices. Regularly monitor Beacon Center achievement of program goals.
Identify Beacon Center’s funding and resource needs, as well as strategies for filling these needs. Lead fund development and resource acquisition strategies, including vetting and pursuing public grant funds, private funding opportunities, and cultivating individual donors.

10. Provide leadership to all Beacon staff, including developing systems and structures for effective team communication, initiating opportunities for collaboration, and providing direct supervision to key staff positions.

11. Develop staff learning and professional growth by providing opportunities for professional development, evolving roles, and the exploration of best practices in youth and family services.

12. Review and approve all incoming and outgoing invoices, expenses, partnership agreements, and other documents requiring signatory approval.

13. Attend and actively represent Beacon constituents at meetings as required by funders, the San Francisco Beacon Initiative, and Bayview Hunter’s Point YMCA.

14. Represent the Beacon with all school and community partners to ensure a positive collaborative working relationship.
