Development Manager – Global Workers Justice Alliance – Brooklyn, NY

OVERVIEW:

Global Workers Justice Alliance (“Global Workers”) is a transnational advocacy organization whose mission is to combat migrant worker exploitation and win ‘portable justice’ for migrants and their families.

Global Workers seeks a Development Manager to manage all fundraising efforts and take on responsibilities for basic office management. The Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director, as well as senior staff and Board members, to: (1) improve individual donor cultivation and solicitation, with an emphasis on expanding the Major Gifts program; (2) manage foundation and government grants program, including proposal writing, budgeting, and grant reporting; and (3) office management.

We are looking for a skilled individual who can manage various functions on a daily basis, willing and able to take on multiple roles as we grow, and positive attitude to jump in where needed.

An annual salary of $45-50k/year depending on experience. Global Workers provides comprehensive employer-paid health insurance and a generous vacation leave package.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Development Manager’s specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Work directly with the Executive Director, Board and staff to develop and implement the annual fundraising plan.
Draft grant proposals and grant reports.
Execute fundraising appeals, including drafting all materials.
Organize fundraising and donor stewardship events, including Global Workers’ 10th Anniversary celebration.
Use Salesforce to accurately track information about donors and prospects, as well as foundation and government agency contacts.
Work with the Executive Director and Board to develop a fundraising strategy.
Work with the Executive Director, Communications Manager, and the Board Communications committee to create and evaluate strategy, messaging, storytelling, and outreach.
Pursue professional development opportunities and integrate points of learning to continually enhance Global Workers’ resource development efforts.
Manage the office, which includes overseeing the physical plant, ordering office supplies, and generally lending a hand.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience securing and managing foundation and/or government grants.
Minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience cultivating and securing contributions from individual donors.
Passion for Global Workers’ mission.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Excellent writing.
Excellent organizational skills.
Proficiency using office productivity software, including Microsoft Office.
Proficiency using CRM software, especially Salesforce.
Success in identifying trends and new possibilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively, listen and learn from feedback, and make decisions in accordance with established policies.
Equally attentive to detail and to overarching goals.
Thrives in a busy, multi-tasking, and time-pressured environment.
Accuracy, integrity and discretion are essential.
Values diversity of thought, backgrounds and perspectives.
Willingness to occasionally travel.

Preferred:

Relevant advanced degree is desirable.
Significant leadership experience in nonprofit resource development.
Verbal and written fluency in Spanish.
Experience working with human rights organizations.
Experience working in Latin America or with Spanish-speaking communities.
